Audrey Hepburn’s pink cocktail dress sold for $192,000

No Comments 31 May 2007

Today was the big Christie’s auction for yet another round of Audrey Hepburn memorabilia. This time the big seller was a hot pink cocktail dress actually worn by Audrey during filming of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and sold for nearly ten times its estimated selling price of $20,000-30,000 US dollars. The winner of the dress was a European bidder who wished to remain anonymous. If you remember, the same thing happened with the black dress sold last December, and it eventually came out that it was bought by the House of Givenchy, so maybe the identity will be revealed in time.

new Hepburn book delayed?

No Comments 30 May 2007

The last time I mentioned Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, it was to note that the release date for the book was May 28th. That apparently hasn’t happened, though Amazon and Barnes and Noble still list the release date as May 2007. Well, they’ve only got two days left! Hopefully this book won’t be as delayed as late as the (lovely and cute) Taschen Icons book was last year.

Also, I apologize for the lack of regular updates recently. I’ve been overfull on work recently and just really needed some time to rest and catch up with myself. Hopefully, I’m all caught up now and can get back to some exciting Audrey news. Remember that her pink Breakfast at Tiffany’s cocktail dress goes up for auction on Wednesday! It’s bound to exceed the estimated sale price.

local Audrey Hepburn artwork

No Comments 24 May 2007

I like to feature some handmade Audrey Hepburn artwork when I can, especially when it’s made out of pure love for art — and Audrey, of course. Yesterday I was out wandering the city when I came across a small chocolate shop called Chocolate Covered. I went in out of curiosity (and maybe the need for a good single origin chocolate bar) and stumbled across some great Audrey artwork! The owner of Chocolate Covered keeps his hands very full by not only running the shop, but by also making art tins. Half of the walls are covered with tins showcasing every major street in San Francisco, and the other half are tins with just about every celebrity you’d ever expect to find. The tins are covered with beautiful blue-tinted photographs and Japanese paper, and make for very mellow art. I found a few pictures of Audrey on the wall and left my contact information for the owner. He called back today and said that “by far, Audrey Hepburn is the bestseller” out of all his tins. I can see why! He also said that there are usually a lot more than what was up, but he’s been running a little short on time lately and so his Audrey stock is depleted.

Grace Kelly follows Audrey Hepburn’s footsteps

By now everyone must have heard about the Timeless Audrey exhibit. If you haven’t, I shall refresh your memory: it’s a traveling exhibit of memorabilia and personal items from Audrey Hepburn’s public and private life, put together in an intimate, open show where you’re close enough to actually touch certain items if you are so inclined. In fact, Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund executive director Ellen Erwin once said that people were a little too free to touch things — women would walk off with Audrey’s scarves! Anyway, this exhibit was around in New Orleans for a while, then toured Japan extensively for two years. It’s being refurbished right now and is set to tour Europe next year, and who knows where it will go next?

The Making of a Classic

Plus, yet another fun summer outing involving Audrey Hepburn! This time it’s a screening of How to Steal a Million at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas on July 26 and 27. I’ve glanced over their full summer lineup and it is amazing, to say the least. I’m very jealous.

Audrey Hepburn: A Life In Pictures

No Comments 15 May 2007

There seems to be yet another new Audrey Hepburn picture book coming out! This one is published by Anova Books, and is called Audrey Hepburn: A Life in Pictures. This is not to be confused with an earlier picture book called Audrey: A Life in Pictures by Carol Krenz — at least I’m pretty sure it’s not a reprint. There’s a different cover and publishing company involved, though judging by the Amazon preview available to us, there are a lot of more well-known pictures of Audrey featured in this new book. Well, perhaps more information will come out about this book between now and its release date of November first and we’ll know for sure if it’s a reprint or not.

And just a reminder: Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the new picture book by photographer Howell Conant, will be released on May 28! This book is supposed to be chock-full of all sorts of Breakfast at Tiffany’s goodies, including many never before seen or very rare photos taken from production and publicity shoots for the film.

Audrey Hepurn tulip dedication ceremony

No Comments 14 May 2007

For those of you who either don’t own or just haven’t seen the new Gardens of the World DVD set, there is a bonus disc filled with outtakes and other goodies. One clip in particular is worth it alone. It’s the official dedication/unveiling of the Audrey Hepburn tulip, a lovely long-necked white flower. The ceremony took place on a rainy day at Huis Doorn, the manor house that used to be owned by Audrey’s family before the war. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but you should definitely watch if you want to see Audrey speaking her native Dutch:
