Audrey 100

No Comments 18 July 2010

There’s a new picture book on Audrey coming out November 2, and it’s called Audrey 100. The premise? The 100 greatest pictures of Audrey Hepburn, as compiled by her son Sean Ferrer. What this means? Rare or private pictures, seen for the first time! The book is co-authored by Ellen (Erwin) Fontana, the director of the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund, who was also behind what I consider the best book out there on Audrey, The Audrey Hepburn Treasures.

Bob Willoughby, Audrey Hepburn: 1953-1966

No Comments 06 July 2010

Taschen is trying to kill us.

A few years ago they released Audrey Hepburn (Movie Icons), one of the best little picture books I have ever seen, and now they’re at it again. This time it’s a monster collection of Bob Willoughby’s work with Audrey, spanning 13 years, in a gorgeous hardcover book with a Tiffany blue spine. But there’s a catch: the book is limited to a run of 1,000 (with an extra 200 artist’s proofs), and they’re priced at a pre-order sale of $500.

Charmed by Audrey: Life on the Set of Sabrina

No Comments 29 April 2009

As you may have read, the gallery exhibit opening/book signing for the new picture book Charmed by Audrey: Life on the Set of Sabrina was last night. It was held in a pretty little Swedish furniture shop in Los Angeles near Hollywood, and there was quite a crowd packed in between the end tables and sleek armchairs! The photographer’s son, David Shaw, was onhand to sign copies of the book and he was kind enough to field my questions for a few minutes about discovering what were thought to be long-lost negatives of his dad Mark Shaw’s work with Audrey for Life Magazine.

Be a part of Audrey

No Comments 28 April 2009

This time, my friends, there’s good reason for my not updating regularly. I’ve been sitting on this as long as I can, but now I must share: I will be in Berlin for the Timeless Audrey exhibit on May 4, Audrey’s birthday! I haven’t found any details yet but I know that something special is happening on what would have been our fair lady’s 80th birthday, so you shall know shortly after I do. :) I will, of course, be taking loads of pictures where I can (there’s no photos allowed in the exhibit, but I’ll see what I can do in the name of journalistic integrity) and bringing back as much information as possible for everyone that can’t just jump out to Germany at the drop of a hat. (There’s also rumors that the exhibit may be coming back to the US for a mini-tour, but nothing is confirmed.)

Something for the L.A. fans

No Comments 10 April 2009

Whew, it’s been hectic around here lately! I think things may settle down around September or October, but until then, be prepared for more sporadic — yet cool — updates. :) Just a short while ago I received a letter about a new gallery exhibit opening at the end of the month in Los Angeles, and it coincides with a new book on Audrey. Double the goodies!

The book is called Charmed By Audrey: Life on the Set of Sabrina, and from what I can tell it’s mainly a picture book featuring loads of snaps from photographer Mark Shaw. Have a gander at the cover of the book (left), I know you know his work.

Life Photographers Series: Remembering Audrey 15 Years Later

No Comments 26 January 2008

Thank you for your ongoing patience! I’m slowly but surely reinstalling all my programs to start working on the website again. I didn’t realize how much junk it took to keep the site going until I lost it all. Anyway, I’ve been hearing a lot about this special edition Life Magazine called “Life Photographers Series: Remembering Audrey 15 Years Later.” Apparently it’s an entire issue of the magazine dedicated to the fabulous Audrey, and all of the pictures of her that have appeared in the magazine throughout the years.

Ralph Lauren and Audrey Hepburn

No Comments 20 October 2007

During her later years in life, Audrey Hepburn gave Givenchy a break and started to dress more casually. For her Gardens of the World series, and for her numerous UNICEF trips, she favoured Ralph Lauren’s stylish yet casual Polo shirts and khaki pants with Keds flats to get her through the day. She became quite chummy with Ralph as well, and even presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award (through the Council for American Fashion Designers, left) in 1992.

Audrey Hepburn makeup tips

No Comments 09 October 2007

I’ve been throwing out tons of tips lately on how to look like Audrey Hepburn or Holly Golightly for Halloween lately, but what about in everyday life? That’s where the book Audrey Style comes in. The first Audrey Hepburn book I ever bought, this book is in equal parts a tribute to her enduring sense of style, impact on the world of fashion, and tips on how to get your own Audrey style. There’s a section in the middle that gives simple, step-by-step instructions on how to do your everyday makeup to look like Audrey, and you even get a variety of styles to choose from (click for full-sized version):

A Life in Pictures review; plus, a fan needs your help

No Comments 22 September 2007

I’ve been working hard all morning updating the site, and there is now a full review of Anova Books’ upcoming Audrey Hepburn: A Life in Pictures. It’s a bit more fleshed out than the original blog-only review I did last month, and will be on the website permanently here. As with any Audrey product that’s listed on the site, if you own it or have seen it/read it and would like to leave your own review, please do so! Fellow fans would love to hear your point of view.
The Audrey Hepburn community has been updated as well, adding a lot of new fans just waiting to strike up a friendship with fellow Audrey fans from around the world. One new member in particular needs your help! They run the Roman Holiday Locations website and say:

Help me! It’s trivial, yes, but would the community like to take a try at identifying some of the remaining unknown film locations for Roman Holiday? The easy ones are done, but you can see some nice screen shots just for fun! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you think you can help in any way, or if you’d just like to see where Roman Holiday was filmed on location, then please stop by the website and poke around. It’d be a great help to others fans, and may help you if you find yourself in Rome one day with some time to poke around!

Lastly, the links page has been updated to include some new sites that have come up recently. If you’re bored or maybe need some help for an Audrey-related report, check there for some great resources and fun ways to waste some time.

New Audrey Hepburn goodies coming soon!

No Comments 12 September 2007

You can tell that the holiday season is coming ’round again, because new Audrey products are coming out all at once now. We’ve already discussed the new, 50th anniversary DVD of Funny Face coming October 2nd, but also to be released that day is a new Audrey Hepburn boxed set (left). This new set features five great films: Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Roman Holiday, Sabrina, and Paris When it Sizzles. Wow!

This is in addition to the already much hyped Audrey Hepburn: A Life in Pictures book that I reviewed earlier, and a re-release of the wonderful Audrey Hepburn’s Enchanted Tales, an audio CD where Audrey reads classic fairy tales. The book and CD both come out November 1st in the US. You can either start saving your pennies now, or start putting together that wishlist and conveniently leaving it out in front of all your friends and family. ;)
