Audrey 100

No Comments 18 July 2010

There’s a new picture book on Audrey coming out November 2, and it’s called Audrey 100. The premise? The 100 greatest pictures of Audrey Hepburn, as compiled by her son Sean Ferrer. What this means? Rare or private pictures, seen for the first time! The book is co-authored by Ellen (Erwin) Fontana, the director of the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund, who was also behind what I consider the best book out there on Audrey, The Audrey Hepburn Treasures.

Audrey Hepburn: In Her Own Words

No Comments 14 July 2010

Many years ago, I visited the offices of The Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund and saw a beautiful video about Audrey’s work with UNICEF. It was introduced by Gregory Peck and I remember he read one of Audrey’s favourite poems by Rabindranath Tagore. It’s been a long time and I haven’t ever been able to find a copy of the video, but luckily a film company found me.

Hey all you Los Angeles area Audrey fans, are you looking to do some good deeds but don’t have a lot of time or money (or either)? UNICEF can still use you! I recently received this email and thought I’d share, in case anyone wanted to pitch in and channel their inner Audrey:

Dear Volunteer:

You are receiving this email because you are a registered volunteer in the greater Los Angeles area and we have a special opportunity in which we need your help!

Audrey Hepburn: Legacy of Caring

No Comments 07 November 2008

The Children’s Fund website links to this fairly new video about Audrey’s former work with UNICEF, and it ties in nicely with what the fund and UNICEF are doing to help the children of the world. As Tuesday reminded all the world, not just the United States, what one country does affects us all, and the younger generations have as big a say in what happens to our world as any other generation. For too many years humanity has turned too far inward and cared only about themselves as individuals, and because of that far too many people are suffering. Now that we’re beginning to wake up and look around, we need to not only dust ourselves off but pick up those who were tossed to the wayside and forgotten during our darker moments.

the ultimate Mother’s Day gifts

No Comments 16 April 2008

I just got a little catalogue in the mail from UNICEF, and it’s encouraging their members to buy one of their Inspired Gifts for your mum this Mother’s Day (May 11th). I think it’s actually a very sweet idea, seeing that the holiday is just a made up Hallmark holiday anyway, and could you give the woman who gave you life* anything better than the chance to touch other childrens lives?

Gifts that give back

No Comments 11 December 2007

If you haven’t already started, I know you’re already at least looking for gifts to start buying for your friends and family for the upcoming holidays. While there are literally billions of things you could get someone that would be a great gift, how about a little something that keeps on giving? More and more, companies are making products that are not only pretty and useful, but they’re made by people in need with the proceeds going to help them, or a product is sold through a charity with the purchase price going towards a certain goal the charity has in mind. Newsday.com has a great article up talking about some of these double-giving presents you might want to consider.

And we’re back

No Comments 04 December 2007

Hello all, and many thanks for your enduring patience with me. To make a long life story short, I decided at the last minute to drive 500 miles south and spend the holiday with my family, since I hadn’t had a holiday with them in 3 years for one reason or another. My mum’s accident made me realize that our time with each other is limited, and I need to make the most of it. My baby nephew also turned one year old and his favourite aunt had to be onhand for that momentous occasion, of course. :) I also managed to write a novel for NaNoWriMo, but that’s a different story, get it?

Long story short, I’m back and we have a lot of catching up to do! Here’s a short list of things that have been going on in the world of Audrey Hepburn lately:

stars of today channeling the stars of yesterday

No Comments 01 November 2007

Us Weekly’s website has a new article up about the celebrities of today channeling the stars of yesterday. Thankfully, there’s no mention of Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears here! And, not surprisingly, Natalie Portman is considered yet again to be our generation’s answer to Audrey Hepburn, not just for her looks, but for her humanitarian work helping third world women with FINCA International. Don’t forget the fact that Natalie donned the most famous little black dress in the world (left) before it was sold at auction, too.

What do you think?

A passion for fashion

No Comments 26 October 2007

I must say, UK Audrey fans are pretty lucky right now. There’s the Golden Age of Couture show currently running at the Victoria & Albert Museum, which has on display the distinctive blue cape Audrey Hepburn wore as Jo Stockton in Funny Face, and now there’s a new, one day only display of Funny Face costumes in Buckingham. Buckingham’s Film Place will have various costumes (no word on which ones) from the stylish film on display for November 2nd only, so you might want to pen that in now! The proceeds from this event and many others that are taking place that week are to benefit local schools, so it will be for a good cause as well as being beautiful and entertaining. You can read more about all of the exhibits that will be on display here, along with contact information for tickets.

Audreybags

There’s some big news today! Huge thanks to sharp-eyed reader Alanna for finding out that the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund is set to release a limited-edition line of handmade Italian purses with Audrey’s image on them! There are 12 different designs, with 36 bags of each design being made. So that means a scant 432 bags were made, making it very limited edition.
