pictures of the Fernanda Gattinoni exhibit

No Comments 31 July 2010

The recent exhibit on Italian designer Fernanda Gattinoni had its last day in Paris yesterday, but if you couldn’t make the exhibit, no worries. Lovely reader Castor was kind enough to visit and take loads of pictures, which she said I could share with all of you. She was also kind enough to translate the text pertaining to Audrey, which I will copy and paste for you. So, without further ado, Castor’s pictures for everyone to enjoy:

Fernanda Gattinoni

No Comments 16 July 2010

Yet another costume exhibit! This one is set in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, next to the Eiffel Tower but distinctly Italian in feel. It’s a showcase of Italian designer Fernanda Gattinoni’s designs from the 1950s and 60s, and while it mainly focuses on her evening gowns for Italian starlets worn at film premieres and other galas, there is a separate section dedicated just to her designs for War and Peace, which Audrey Hepburn wore. While the film may be more than a big long, I do love watching it just to see how stunning Audrey looks, especially in that airy white ballgown with the Empire waist (left).

a missed exhibit

No Comments 13 July 2010

I’m busy working on improving the website for you, but while searching for a lost picture, I stumbled across this sweet blog. It’s very nice overall, but here’s one thing I missed completely: an Audrey exhibit in Paris last year! To coincide with the auction of still more costumes and personal wardrobe, an exhibit was set up at the end of last year in Paris, and the author of Parisian Party of course went. And took very gorgeous pictures, and knows her stuff. I don’t want to swipe any of her pictures, so you’ll just have to visit her site for yourself. Link directly to the Audrey exhibit here.

Speaking of things I’ve missed, when the most famous dress in the world, the long black Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress, was auctioned in 2006 it was widely publicised when someone wore it.

Givenchy still has the eye

3 Comments 10 June 2010

At the age of 83, Hubert de Givenchy is still very active in the world of fashion. Though he may have sold his couture house to LVMH, he is still only truly at home when he is designing, talking about design – or curating an extraordinary collection of gowns in a French chateau.

Running now through August 17, if you are around the Lorraine region of France, feel free to drop by Château de Haroué, a modest 82 room bungalow (chateau actually means castle in French, and the French do not use that term lightly!). It is there that you will find a carefully chosen bevy of gowns designed by Paris’s most renowned designers: Balenciaga, Venet, and Givenchy himself. The surroundings are astounding, the gowns are divine, and as an added bonus, the long black column dress Audrey Hepburn wore in the beginning credits of Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Givenchy’s own copy, and one of the three originals – will be on display for your pleasure.

Why Can’t I Be Audrey Hepburn?

1 Comment 13 August 2009

Thank you all for your ongoing patience here. I’m in the midst of moving (yes, again) and I start a whopping 16 units of school next week, so needless to say, I’m a bit crazy right now.

I hope you’ve been enjoying the pictures from the Timeless Audrey exhibit! Perhaps someday soon when I have a free day (hah!), I can maybe drop by the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund office and ask if they need help and maybe suss out some information, like where the exhibit will go next. You should all have the chance to see it in person! I shall try for you.

In the meantime, my brother-in-law unearthed the script for Why Can’t I Be Audrey Hepburn? among his things and lent it to me. Not sure if it was for my screenwriting class that I’ll be taking, or because I’m somewhat enamored of the lady, but after hearing about this script (and the rumors surrounding it) for ages, I can’t wait to read it!

Charmed by Audrey: Life on the Set of Sabrina

No Comments 29 April 2009

As you may have read, the gallery exhibit opening/book signing for the new picture book Charmed by Audrey: Life on the Set of Sabrina was last night. It was held in a pretty little Swedish furniture shop in Los Angeles near Hollywood, and there was quite a crowd packed in between the end tables and sleek armchairs! The photographer’s son, David Shaw, was onhand to sign copies of the book and he was kind enough to field my questions for a few minutes about discovering what were thought to be long-lost negatives of his dad Mark Shaw’s work with Audrey for Life Magazine.

Be a part of Audrey

No Comments 28 April 2009

This time, my friends, there’s good reason for my not updating regularly. I’ve been sitting on this as long as I can, but now I must share: I will be in Berlin for the Timeless Audrey exhibit on May 4, Audrey’s birthday! I haven’t found any details yet but I know that something special is happening on what would have been our fair lady’s 80th birthday, so you shall know shortly after I do. :) I will, of course, be taking loads of pictures where I can (there’s no photos allowed in the exhibit, but I’ll see what I can do in the name of journalistic integrity) and bringing back as much information as possible for everyone that can’t just jump out to Germany at the drop of a hat. (There’s also rumors that the exhibit may be coming back to the US for a mini-tour, but nothing is confirmed.)

Something for the L.A. fans

No Comments 10 April 2009

Whew, it’s been hectic around here lately! I think things may settle down around September or October, but until then, be prepared for more sporadic — yet cool — updates. :) Just a short while ago I received a letter about a new gallery exhibit opening at the end of the month in Los Angeles, and it coincides with a new book on Audrey. Double the goodies!

The book is called Charmed By Audrey: Life on the Set of Sabrina, and from what I can tell it’s mainly a picture book featuring loads of snaps from photographer Mark Shaw. Have a gander at the cover of the book (left), I know you know his work.

My Fair Lady on the big screen

No Comments 30 March 2009

This past Friday I was lucky enough to finally see My Fair Lady on the big screen. The Academy (you know, the ones who hand out the Oscars) was holding a special 70mm screening of the restored original print, and apparently the 70mm version hasn’t been screened since the film was first released 45 years ago. After seeing it for myself, I have to say it’s downright tragic. The colours were fantastic, especially the flower segments during the opening credits, and I could just see so much more than I ever have before. You could actually read the elocution cards tacked all over Eliza’s bedroom walls, and the more subtle facial expressions were just divine. The mix of emotions that came over Rex Harrison’s face in that final scene was incredible. It actually brought tears to my eyes.
