Audrey Hepburn’s pink cocktail dress to be on display in Ireland?

Comments Off on Audrey Hepburn’s pink cocktail dress to be on display in Ireland? 01 June 2007

I have only found one news source as of yet, but it looks as if the winner of the hot pink cocktail dress worn by Audrey Hepburn during filming of Breakfast at Tiffany’s has indeed been identified, despite their request to remain anonymous. According to RTÉ.ie, the new owner of the size zero dress is Newbridge Silverware. The company purchased the dress to display in their new style museum which opens tomorrow in County Kildare.

I’m not doubting the validity of this story per se, and it would be really fantastic to have someone purchase an iconic dress that Audrey actually wore and display it for everyone to see, but I’m just a little wary because no one else is reporting this — yet, anyway. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Grace Kelly follows Audrey Hepburn’s footsteps

Comments Off on Grace Kelly follows Audrey Hepburn’s footsteps 21 May 2007

By now everyone must have heard about the Timeless Audrey exhibit. If you haven’t, I shall refresh your memory: it’s a traveling exhibit of memorabilia and personal items from Audrey Hepburn’s public and private life, put together in an intimate, open show where you’re close enough to actually touch certain items if you are so inclined. In fact, Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund executive director Ellen Erwin once said that people were a little too free to touch things — women would walk off with Audrey’s scarves! Anyway, this exhibit was around in New Orleans for a while, then toured Japan extensively for two years. It’s being refurbished right now and is set to tour Europe next year, and who knows where it will go next?

updates on the Timeless Audrey Exhibit; plus Natalie Portman

Comments Off on updates on the Timeless Audrey Exhibit; plus Natalie Portman 03 May 2007

Late last year the official site of the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund said that the European leg of the Timeless Audrey Exhibit should be launching sometime in 2007. I wrote Ellen Erwin, executive director of the Children’s Fund, to ask if any tour dates had been set as of yet for the tour. She was kind enough to write back, and it looks as if the tour will be delayed a bit. After traveling Japan for two years, the wall and platform props that are an integral part of the exhibit need to be refurbished, so it looks like 2008-2009 for the European tour. This just means more time to save money and plan for an Audrey-centered trip for some of us. 😉 We’ll have to wait a bit longer to see the exhibit, but it’ll look sparkling and brand-new, which is worth waiting for.

video of the Tiffany diamond on display

Comments Off on video of the Tiffany diamond on display 14 April 2007

They’re calling it the Breakfast at Tiffany’s diamond, and that assumption seems to draw in even more people. NECN has video footage up of the rare yellow Tiffany diamond being installed at the Smithsonian museum in Washington, D.C., and interviews some gawkers admiring the diamond. While no one interviewed said they came because they were an Audrey Hepburn or Breakfast at Tiffany’s fan, I’m sure quite a few people did end up making the trip because of that Audrey tie-in. It’s funny to see how relatively small the diamond seems to be, yet it’s still larger than the most famous diamond in the world, the Hope Diamond (though I guess being cursed does help you become famous, as the case is with the Hope). I’ve seen the Hope diamond in person and it does look a lot larger when you’re face to face with it. Does anyone have plans to visit the Tiffany diamond?

See the rare yellow Tiffany diamond!

Comments Off on See the rare yellow Tiffany diamond! 11 April 2007

If you are in the Washington, D.C. area or plan to be between tomorrow and the end of September, you may want to make a detour to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Why? Because the enormous yellow Tiffany diamond, worn only twice in its history, will be on display! You can finally see, up close and personal — barring the glass and security alarms — the 128 carat gem that Audrey Hepburn was lucky enough to wear. You may remember from an earlier post that Audrey was one of two people to ever wear this priceless stone, and that it was remounted in a custom-made necklace for her publicity photos. Tiffany & Co. was kind enough to loan the diamond to the Smithsonian institute, and you can see it, along with the Hope Diamond and some other iconic gems, through September 23. For more information on the Tiffany diamond and the Smithsonian display, click here.

The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957

Comments Off on The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957 16 March 2007

There’s a new fashion exhibit coming to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in September that’s all about the golden age of modern fashion: 1947-1957, the ten year span when fashion went from war utilitarian to post-war lushness. While it seems that the exhibit will feature mostly Dior pieces, Givenchy’s pieces will be on display. Specifically, a replica of the bright blue cape Audrey Hepburn wore in Funny Face will be shown, along with fashion portraits by Cecil Beaton and Richard Avedon (and perhaps some Audrey portraits?). You can read more about the exhibit and the designers that will be featured here, and The Independent has another article that goes more into fashion in general during that period.

Lucky London, they’re having all the Audrey luck lately!

My Fair Lady’s Ascot Races dress

Comments Off on My Fair Lady’s Ascot Races dress 09 February 2007

A few years ago, I had the privilege of seeing the famous white Ascot dress from My Fair Lady before it was auctioned off in Hollywood. (Click the link to see photos and read more about the auction itself.) At the time, the new owner of the dress, who payed a whopping $100,000 for the dress and hat, had promised to one day display the dress in a cinema museum for all fans to enjoy. It seems that his promise is coming true! From March 1 through the 13, you can see the dress, along with 40 other famous costumes from great movies, at the Daimaru Museum in Tokyo, Japan. Admission to “Cinema Fashion and Hollywood Designers” exhibit is ¥900, ¥700 for students. However, if you go to this site and follow the directions at the bottom of the page, you can receive free tickets through the mail! It is limited to residents of Japan.

A Weekend With Audrey Hepburn

1 Comment 07 January 2007

Thanks to quissuer711 at the Audrey Hepburn Circle, there’s a fantastic “new” story about spending the weekend with Audrey. Apparently way back in 1951, before anyone really knew the name Audrey Hepburn, a scientist was asked to entertain a friend’s house guest, the guest being none other than Audrey. The two became chummy and kept in touch over the years, and I won’t ruin any more for you. Read the whole story here and judge for yourself how you like this story.

more news from audreyhepburn.com

Comments Off on more news from audreyhepburn.com 14 November 2006

I received an email from Ellen Erwin, the Executive Director of the Children’s Fund this morning. Since it’s short, I’ll just copy and paste it for everyone to read:

Just to let you know, the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund website has been recently updated and we are redesigning a brand new flash website for launch next year. Thanks for the mention on your website. Will you let your visitors know that our website is current? Thanks so much and best regards

Isn’t that great? I can’t wait to see how it will change. And maybe they’ll post a full schedule of the exhibit’s tour in Europe . . .
