Audrey’s Song

No Comments 07 July 2010

Updating three days in a row? I must be ill! Or there’s just too much going on for me to stay silent. Today finds us looking at the Italian Vogue website, where writer Cesare Cunaccia tells us about the time he met Audrey Hepburn in 1983.

A little Audrey inspiration for you

No Comments 11 June 2008

I’ve been catching up with the guestbook entries, and there are so many sweet and lovely entries! I’m so glad the site makes so many people happy, helps them remember a wonderful woman, and helps newer generations discover her for themselves. While us girls may sigh once in a while, wishing we could look more like Audrey, someone by the name of Just Me has a perfect way of saying “Stay you”:

hello again

No Comments 30 March 2008

I can’t thank you enough for your ongoing patience with all this! My computer is fixed, I’m just waiting on acquiring Photoshop and GoLive again so I can fix pictures and webpages, but I’ve still being working two jobs and prepping for a move. So after the move next month, the dust should settle and we should be back to normal.

To make up for my extended absences, here’s a little something for the ladies: an Audrey Hepburn 50s makeup guide, complete with an elfin Audrey look-alike model! Enjoy, and be sure to try it out on yourself sometime soon. Thick black eyeliner’s back in, ya know. :)

Audrey Hepburn in the Ultimate Hotties list

No Comments 22 October 2007

I forgot to mention when I posted the Entertainment Weekly articles that Audrey Hepburn was also mentioned on the magazine’s website. EW is currently polling their readers via the site to see who the Ultimate Hottie is. The contest is still ongoing, but in the Ultimate Female Hotties: The 60s and Earlier, Audrey is definitely on the list:

Ultimate Hottie Moment Wearing a slinky black dress and clutching a long, skinny cigarette holder in 1961′s Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

You can see Audrey’s page in the list here, and view the competition in general here.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s voted Most Stylish — again

No Comments 11 October 2007

It seems that just last month Breakfast at Tiffany’s was voted the most the Most Fashionable Film in movie history, and this month Teen Vogue follows suit with their list of Hollywood’s Most Stylish Movies. In the number one spot? Breakfast at Tiffany’s, of course! The list is actually a little surprising for a fashion film list and includes a lot of films I wouldn’t have pegged the Teen Vogue crowd as ever having seen, let alone see as fashion icons. It’s a very pleasant surprise, though, and makes Breakfast’s win even sweeter. To see the whole list for yourself, go here.

Audrey Hepburn makeup tips

No Comments 09 October 2007

I’ve been throwing out tons of tips lately on how to look like Audrey Hepburn or Holly Golightly for Halloween lately, but what about in everyday life? That’s where the book Audrey Style comes in. The first Audrey Hepburn book I ever bought, this book is in equal parts a tribute to her enduring sense of style, impact on the world of fashion, and tips on how to get your own Audrey style. There’s a section in the middle that gives simple, step-by-step instructions on how to do your everyday makeup to look like Audrey, and you even get a variety of styles to choose from (click for full-sized version):

For Audrey

No Comments 05 October 2007

China Glaze makes nail polish in about every colour imaginable. They’ve created a special varnish called “For Audrey,” (alternately “Something Blue”) and if the shade looks familiar, that’s because it’s Tiffany blue. Yes, they somehow managed to get the rights to use Tiffany’s trademark turquoise-but-not and make a polish named in Audrey’s honor. It seems to be a little hard to get, but I’ve found that 8ty8beauty has plenty in stock at $2.48 a bottle. Not a bad deal, right? Unfortunately shipping isn’t automatically figured in to your order, so you’ll either have to write and ask them (be sure to state how many bottles you’ll be wanting and where it’ll be shipped to), or take a guess. I asked the shipping price for 4-5 bottles and it was $6, so all in all it’s pretty reasonable! If you’d like, you can order here.

How to look like Holly Golightly; Audrey interview from 1990

No Comments 28 August 2007

A few days ago I got a message from askmemakeup on You Tube, telling me about a new makeup video she’s done instructing women on how to get the Holly Golightly look in makeup. I watched it last night, and wow! It’s really good. I’ve always had a difficult time with false eyelashes (maybe due to my real eyelashes — they’ve been likened to giraffe eyelashes), but after watching this video I really want to try it again, and I have a good feeling I’d finally get it right. Watch for yourself, then try for yourself!

This, coupled with previous posts on how to get Holly Golightly’s hair, her sleep mask, and how to be Holly Golightly, should send you well on your way to being truly obsessed.

There’s another great video of Audrey up, this one found by lovely reader MaDoNnA4L. It’s an interview Audrey did with Phil Donahue in 1990, and Miss M says: “It is so wonderful to see her in a light atmospehere, laughing with the audience and having fun discussing her handsome costars and her current boyfriend, Robert Wolders. It also has very touching moments where Audrey discussed her time in the war as well as her father leaving.” Watch for yourself and see! All four parts are below:

If you liked these videos, and I’m almost certain you will, then please thank 1988CityRhythm for being so kind as to post these for everyone to enjoy.

Audrey at a theatre near you; Edie Sedgwick and stencils

No Comments 15 December 2006

First up, a few theatres in America have been publishing their upcoming attractions on line and making it into Google news, so you might be able to catch Audrey on the silver screen soon!

San Diego’s recently renovated North Park Theatre will be running a film festival called “Fabulous Faces of the Fifties.” Audrey is, of course, one of those fabulous faces, and if you’re in the area, Roman Holiday will be playing January 11-14. For more information, go here.

At the end of this month — December 29, to be exact — the Paramount in Ashbury Park will be playing My Fair Lady. They’re actually going to be showing quite a few good movies this month, including Cabaret, so if you’re in the New Jersey area, definitely check it out.

Next up, I’d been looking for some Audrey-related crafty goodness to share, but there aren’t many really good things to share. I did, however, find a stencil website with some good Audrey stencils free for the taking, so if you want to add a little Audrey to your walls, t-shirts, or the sidewalk*, click here.

*Note: we don’t condone grafitti here at Fab Audrey, but we are based in a city where grafitti is held as a valid artform, and Audrey stencils are found throughout the city. So if you live in an open-minded place where public works of art on public property are treated as such, then it’s your call.

And speaking of stencils, have you always wanted Audrey’s thick, exotic eyebrows but were unsure of how to go about it? Never fear, there are eyebrow stencils for that! With the stencil, you can either brush in dark powder to darken light brows, pencil in brows in a particular shape, or use the stencil as a plucking guide to shape your brows. Here is the page with Audrey’s stencil and the Sabrina-era picture of her which inspired the shape, and the bottom of the page has a link to directions on how exactly this thing works. It’s not a bad idea, actually!

Speaking of thick eyebrows, Edie Sedgwick and the upcoming film about Edie, Factory Girl, has been popping up a lot lately in conjunction with Audrey. If you’re not familiar with Andy Warhol and his art and the Factory, this might take some explaining, but you’re better off just doing some quick reading and coming back. So Factory Girl is about Edie’s work with Andy Warhol and her supposed relationship with Bob Dylan, which he denies to this day, though he is renamed in the film for fear of being sued — which is happening anyway. While I still don’t know a whole lot about Edie, she was compared a lot to Audrey in her day and even now, with people saying that Edie had Audrey’s vulnerability and charm. If this makes you curious about Edie or the film, I definitely encourage you to learn more. You can read a little more at the IMDb page for the film, which even references Holly Golightly, and you can see the trailer here.

Natalie Portman is Audrey’s "clone," but Audrey was a Martian anyway

1 Comment 09 October 2006

I’ve seen these articles come into my inbox quite a few times now, so I thought I’d share. Apparently Natalie Portman wearing Audrey’s dress is a big deal, leading many to call her our generation’s Audrey Hepburn and Audrey’s clone. Unlike some starlets, Natalie has openly admitted that she could never fill Audrey’s shoes and doesn’t even want to try, which is nice and refreshing and really what people need to hear. She has also said she would never play Audrey in a biopic, so get that idea out of your head. Audrey clone or not though, we could do a lot worse on role models for young women. To view the article, click here.

Another article I’d like to share starts out as a review for the Spoto biography, but quickly morphs into something completely different. It’s a sort of lovesong for Audrey and her uniqueness, and it’s very lovely. The author even throws in a brief — but very good — biography of Audrey at the end, which would make it very hard for any casual reader to not be curious about her afterwards. The article can be found here.

The last article is just a quick add-on. Its main point is that Audrey always seems to be in style, which is nice, but I was personally very intrigued by the last half of the piece. It compares Audrey with the starlets of today, especially the D-listers like Paris Hilton (may I never mention her name again) and Jessica Simpson. The interesting part is the author’s hypothesis that even Audrey herself wouldn’t have emerged unscathed from the tabloid machines today, who take any innocuous happening and turn it into the basest trash. That’s something I’ve always wondered about myself, really. You can read the full story here.

And if this doesn’t make you mad (or ill), nothing will.

I know it’s old, but it never ceases to be irritating. What was it Mag Wildwood said about “a piece of cheap Hollywood trash”?
