The hammer strikes tomorrow

No Comments 28 September 2017

Timeless Audrey in BerlinIn case you’re an Audrey Hepburn fan without internet access, who doesn’t watch the news or read the papers, or have just woken up after an extremely long – and hopefully fulfilling – nap, you might not be aware of a large collection of Audrey’s personal items finishing going to auction at Christie’s London tomorrow. A lot of the items being sold live at auction, or at the ongoing internet auction that started September 19th and will continue until tomorrow, were once used in the traveling Timeless Audrey exhibit. After receiving Christie’s catalog for the auction today, it hit harder than ever that the era of Timeless Audrey is done.

Who really made the black and white Sabrina gown?

4 Comments 20 September 2017

Sabrina gown at Profiles in HistoryAs I’d said before, I’m really, incredibly happy to see the iconic Sabrina dress in the public eye. It hasn’t been getting quite as much attention as the Christie’s auction happening at the end of the month, but I’m sure the excitement will just build – besides, we still have about three weeks until the Debbie Reynolds & Carrie Fisher auctions begin!

While we’re all thrilled that the Sabrina gown has been found and shown to us again, what’s even more exciting is that the auction house, Profiles in History, appear to have also settled a 60 year old debate: who really made the couture frocks Audrey Hepburn wore in Sabrina?

The Personal Collection of Audrey Hepburn at Christie’s Los Angeles

1 Comment 15 September 2017

Academy Award and Burberry trench coatAs you should all know by now, Audrey’s two sons are auctioning off a large portion of their mother’s items that they had been fighting over for years. From what I’d heard, the contested belongings were sitting in a storage space here in L.A., and thanks to the courts intervening, they have agreed to sell a lot of things. (If you need more detail, there’s always this post.) Christie’s Los Angeles location had a small assortment of items soon going on the block available for the public to view for three days, so off I went yesterday to look. Here’s some photos for you.

The iconic black and white ballgown from Sabrina is going to auction

1 Comment 14 September 2017

I had completely forgotten that Debbie Reynolds, whom we recently lost, had the divine Givenchy-designed organza dress with detachable train from Sabrina in her collection. But now that she and her daughter Carrie Fisher are gone – something that’s still hard to grasp – some of their items are going to auction next month.

Audrey Hepburn sewing patterns for 2017

No Comments 29 June 2017

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had one of these, hasn’t it?

I know it’s a little early to be considering Halloween costumes, but it’s always a good time to look for good sewing patterns, if you’re the crafty sort, and always a good time to expand your wardrobe! I personally love sewing and will be studying fashion (again) in the fall, so I went through all of the major patternmakers’ catalogs available in the US and found some good patterns available right now. If you’re interested in expanding your sewing skills, or even to start sewing at home, have a look at these patterns and maybe give one a try.

Another huge Audrey Hepburn auction

She Wore Givenchy…

1 Comment 28 February 2013

hepburn_648It seems London has all the good gallery shows lately! I received notice recently that some new, never before seen photographs from a lost photo shoot in 1964 will be on display in London starting today and running through April 7th. The exhibit is called She Wore Givenchy…An Hour at the Ritz, Paris, 1964, and was photographed by Angela Williams.

a missed exhibit

No Comments 13 July 2010

I’m busy working on improving the website for you, but while searching for a lost picture, I stumbled across this sweet blog. It’s very nice overall, but here’s one thing I missed completely: an Audrey exhibit in Paris last year! To coincide with the auction of still more costumes and personal wardrobe, an exhibit was set up at the end of last year in Paris, and the author of Parisian Party of course went. And took very gorgeous pictures, and knows her stuff. I don’t want to swipe any of her pictures, so you’ll just have to visit her site for yourself. Link directly to the Audrey exhibit here.

Speaking of things I’ve missed, when the most famous dress in the world, the long black Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress, was auctioned in 2006 it was widely publicised when someone wore it.

There’s a lot of nice little stories floating about, so I’m going to gather them all together for you:

– Our Dutch friend Joop says that dear Audrey was recently voted the most beautiful woman ever, which is quite an achievement! Lovely picture and short story (in Dutch) here.

Givenchy still has the eye

3 Comments 10 June 2010

At the age of 83, Hubert de Givenchy is still very active in the world of fashion. Though he may have sold his couture house to LVMH, he is still only truly at home when he is designing, talking about design – or curating an extraordinary collection of gowns in a French chateau.

Running now through August 17, if you are around the Lorraine region of France, feel free to drop by Château de Haroué, a modest 82 room bungalow (chateau actually means castle in French, and the French do not use that term lightly!). It is there that you will find a carefully chosen bevy of gowns designed by Paris’s most renowned designers: Balenciaga, Venet, and Givenchy himself. The surroundings are astounding, the gowns are divine, and as an added bonus, the long black column dress Audrey Hepburn wore in the beginning credits of Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Givenchy’s own copy, and one of the three originals – will be on display for your pleasure.
