She Wore Givenchy…

2 Comments 28 February 2013

hepburn_648It seems London has all the good gallery shows lately! I received notice recently that some new, never before seen photographs from a lost photo shoot in 1964 will be on display in London starting today and running through April 7th. The exhibit is called She Wore Givenchy…An Hour at the Ritz, Paris, 1964, and was photographed by Angela Williams.

a missed exhibit

Comments Off on a missed exhibit 13 July 2010

I’m busy working on improving the website for you, but while searching for a lost picture, I stumbled across this sweet blog. It’s very nice overall, but here’s one thing I missed completely: an Audrey exhibit in Paris last year! To coincide with the auction of still more costumes and personal wardrobe, an exhibit was set up at the end of last year in Paris, and the author of Parisian Party of course went. And took very gorgeous pictures, and knows her stuff. I don’t want to swipe any of her pictures, so you’ll just have to visit her site for yourself. Link directly to the Audrey exhibit here.

Speaking of things I’ve missed, when the most famous dress in the world, the long black Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress, was auctioned in 2006 it was widely publicised when someone wore it.

There’s a lot of nice little stories floating about, so I’m going to gather them all together for you:

– Our Dutch friend Joop says that dear Audrey was recently voted the most beautiful woman ever, which is quite an achievement! Lovely picture and short story (in Dutch) here.

Givenchy still has the eye

3 Comments 10 June 2010

At the age of 83, Hubert de Givenchy is still very active in the world of fashion. Though he may have sold his couture house to LVMH, he is still only truly at home when he is designing, talking about design – or curating an extraordinary collection of gowns in a French chateau.

Running now through August 17, if you are around the Lorraine region of France, feel free to drop by Château de Haroué, a modest 82 room bungalow (chateau actually means castle in French, and the French do not use that term lightly!). It is there that you will find a carefully chosen bevy of gowns designed by Paris’s most renowned designers: Balenciaga, Venet, and Givenchy himself. The surroundings are astounding, the gowns are divine, and as an added bonus, the long black column dress Audrey Hepburn wore in the beginning credits of Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Givenchy’s own copy, and one of the three originals – will be on display for your pleasure.

The It Dress

6 Comments 01 June 2010

Hello strangers! I have not forgotten you, never fear. Instead, I’ve been busy. As usual. Amongst this busyness is completely revamping the website from the ground up, so rest assured that this is for your benefit. :)

Anyway, my friend Natalia sent me a fantastic little article this morning, and I just had to share. A recent survey was taken out on the most iconic female screen outfit of all time, and Holly Golightly’s long black evening gown beat out some stiff competition to come out on top. The long little black dress even beat Marilyn Monroe’s unforgettable halter neck dress from The Seven Year Itch and Keira Knightley’s stunning green gown from Atonement.

on the fabulous auction

5 Comments 24 November 2009

As I’d mentioned here a while ago, there’s a huge auction coming soon in London that will sell quite a lot of Audrey’s wardrobe. At the time information was fairly scarce, but thanks to people finally putting out press releases and Vogue picking up on the story, we finally have some information.

Kerry Taylor Auctions will be selling a good collection of Audrey’s personal and film wardrobe, every piece authenticated, on December 7 and 8. This is big news not only because it’s rare to find wardrobe that has been authenticated, it’s even more rare to find such a large collection being auctioned all at once. More good news out of this: half of the proceeds go directly to the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund! What a nice surprise.

Hello again

Comments Off on Hello again 26 December 2007

Hello everyone, I hope you had a good holiday, if you celebrate anything. If not, then I hope you enjoyed a day off to laze around in your pajamas all day. :) I’m sorry I’ve been MIA lately, I was silly enough to try and work two jobs during the holidays. Hit me with a fish the next time I get that ridiculous idea in my head! Thank you for your patience yet again, and here’s your bit of post-holiday news.

Christie’s had yet another film memorabilia auction on December 19th, but it didn’t really seem to make any major news outlets, at least not that I could find. This was very surprising! But here’s all of the Audrey Hepburn specific autions for you, since that’s what we’re interested in:

Vote for Audrey!

Comments Off on Vote for Audrey! 15 December 2007

I received an email today from the UK InStyle magazine, and they’ve just started a fun new survey about the most stylish costume on film. Our dear Audrey is mentioned not once, but twice! You can vote for Holly Golightly’s immortal little black dress from the opening scenes of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, or the equally iconic black and white dress from the Ascot races in My Fair Lady.

another Audrey Hepburn dress up for auction

Comments Off on another Audrey Hepburn dress up for auction 07 November 2007

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many Audrey Hepburn dresses up for auction in such a short period of time! Just this morning it was announced that Christie’s would have a film memorabilia sale at its auction house in South Kensington on December 19th, and a dress made for and worn by Audrey in Charade will be up for sale. Unfortunately, Christie’s website doesn’t have any details about this auction up yet, so I can’t find out which dress it is. I’ll keep checking, though, and let you know as soon as I find any information.

In the meantime, you can read more about the auction as a whole here, and see some other great pieces that will be up for sale that day.

How to be your own fashion guru

1 Comment 29 October 2007

There are no two ways around it: Audrey Hepburn is a style icon. But what makes her an icon? What can you do to be your own style icon? According to Nina Garcia’s new book, The Little Black Book of Style, you just have to be yourself. What makes the great fashion icons Audrey, Jackie O., Marilyn Monroe stand out from the crowd is the fact that they ultimately forgot about what was in fashion from season to season and focused on what worked best for them, building their own style. Garcia and Givenchy think the same: both have said that anyone can be in fashion, buying the latest looks, but not everyone has style, knowing what works for them and making it their own.
