The It Dress

4 Comments 01 June 2010

Hello strangers! I have not forgotten you, never fear. Instead, I’ve been busy. As usual. Amongst this busyness is completely revamping the website from the ground up, so rest assured that this is for your benefit. 🙂

Anyway, my friend Natalia sent me a fantastic little article this morning, and I just had to share. A recent survey was taken out on the most iconic female screen outfit of all time, and Holly Golightly’s long black evening gown beat out some stiff competition to come out on top. The long little black dress even beat Marilyn Monroe’s unforgettable halter neck dress from The Seven Year Itch and Keira Knightley’s stunning green gown from Atonement.

on the fabulous auction

5 Comments 24 November 2009

As I’d mentioned here a while ago, there’s a huge auction coming soon in London that will sell quite a lot of Audrey’s wardrobe. At the time information was fairly scarce, but thanks to people finally putting out press releases and Vogue picking up on the story, we finally have some information.

Kerry Taylor Auctions will be selling a good collection of Audrey’s personal and film wardrobe, every piece authenticated, on December 7 and 8. This is big news not only because it’s rare to find wardrobe that has been authenticated, it’s even more rare to find such a large collection being auctioned all at once. More good news out of this: half of the proceeds go directly to the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund! What a nice surprise.

Hello again

No Comments 26 December 2007

Hello everyone, I hope you had a good holiday, if you celebrate anything. If not, then I hope you enjoyed a day off to laze around in your pajamas all day. 🙂 I’m sorry I’ve been MIA lately, I was silly enough to try and work two jobs during the holidays. Hit me with a fish the next time I get that ridiculous idea in my head! Thank you for your patience yet again, and here’s your bit of post-holiday news.

Christie’s had yet another film memorabilia auction on December 19th, but it didn’t really seem to make any major news outlets, at least not that I could find. This was very surprising! But here’s all of the Audrey Hepburn specific autions for you, since that’s what we’re interested in:

Vote for Audrey!

No Comments 15 December 2007

I received an email today from the UK InStyle magazine, and they’ve just started a fun new survey about the most stylish costume on film. Our dear Audrey is mentioned not once, but twice! You can vote for Holly Golightly’s immortal little black dress from the opening scenes of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, or the equally iconic black and white dress from the Ascot races in My Fair Lady.

another Audrey Hepburn dress up for auction

No Comments 07 November 2007

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many Audrey Hepburn dresses up for auction in such a short period of time! Just this morning it was announced that Christie’s would have a film memorabilia sale at its auction house in South Kensington on December 19th, and a dress made for and worn by Audrey in Charade will be up for sale. Unfortunately, Christie’s website doesn’t have any details about this auction up yet, so I can’t find out which dress it is. I’ll keep checking, though, and let you know as soon as I find any information.

In the meantime, you can read more about the auction as a whole here, and see some other great pieces that will be up for sale that day.

How to be your own fashion guru

1 Comment 29 October 2007

There are no two ways around it: Audrey Hepburn is a style icon. But what makes her an icon? What can you do to be your own style icon? According to Nina Garcia’s new book, The Little Black Book of Style, you just have to be yourself. What makes the great fashion icons Audrey, Jackie O., Marilyn Monroe stand out from the crowd is the fact that they ultimately forgot about what was in fashion from season to season and focused on what worked best for them, building their own style. Garcia and Givenchy think the same: both have said that anyone can be in fashion, buying the latest looks, but not everyone has style, knowing what works for them and making it their own.

A passion for fashion

No Comments 26 October 2007

I must say, UK Audrey fans are pretty lucky right now. There’s the Golden Age of Couture show currently running at the Victoria & Albert Museum, which has on display the distinctive blue cape Audrey Hepburn wore as Jo Stockton in Funny Face, and now there’s a new, one day only display of Funny Face costumes in Buckingham. Buckingham’s Film Place will have various costumes (no word on which ones) from the stylish film on display for November 2nd only, so you might want to pen that in now! The proceeds from this event and many others that are taking place that week are to benefit local schools, so it will be for a good cause as well as being beautiful and entertaining. You can read more about all of the exhibits that will be on display here, along with contact information for tickets.

get Star-Struck with Audrey Hepburn

No Comments 28 September 2007

From now until October 28th, The Women’s Museum in Dallas, Texas will have an Audrey Hepburn dress on display, along with other celebrity gowns, in an exhibit called Star-Struck: Hollwood Costumes & Designers, 1932-2006. Sadly, I couldn’t find out which dress is going to be on display, but if any of you will be in the Dallas area within the next month, you could stop by the exhibit at the State Fair and take some pictures for the rest of us. The museum will be showing a large collection of dresses along with about 50 costume sketches, many of them nominated for (if not winning) awards. You can find out a little more about the exhibit, including times and admission prices, here.

Audrey Hepburn’s little black dress on display in Harrod’s

No Comments 19 September 2007

Audrey Hepburn may have worn many little black dresses in her life, but that’s sort of what she’s known for, isn’t it? Her little black dress with the sequined fringe that she wore in Charade (which was recently auctioned off, coincidentally) is now on display in Harrod’s department store as part of their Harrod’s Timeless Luxury promotion. It will be on the fourth floor at the Georgian Restaurant in the Little Black Dress Exhibition, along with other famous LBDs. You should hurry, since it looks like the display will only be up through mid-October. You can read more about it here.

House of Givenchy still inspired by Audrey Hepburn

No Comments 03 July 2007

It’s been over 50 years since Audrey Hepburn and Hubert de Givenchy met, changing the course of fashion forever. While it may be ancient history to some people, it’s nice to see that even now Audrey is influencing Givenchy, though in a slightly different way. This fall, the Givenchy 2007 makeup collection will feature subtle nods to the one and only Audrey. For example, the 9-colour eyeshadow collection to the left features an Audrey mantra, “Style for Life,” etched into the mirror. There are other goodies that also feature Audrey quotes, along with two shades of lipstick that I’m fairly sure are Audrey-inspired or worn (they’re called Interdit, and her personal perfume was called L’Interdit), but I’ll let you peruse for yourself at Makeup Bag, where I found all of this fantastic stuff.

Sometimes it pays to be a girl, doesn’t it, ladies? 🙂
