More Holly Golightly/Audrey Hepburn costume tips

Comments Off on More Holly Golightly/Audrey Hepburn costume tips 03 October 2007

If you missed it the first time around, here’s part one of the costume tips. I’ve found even more great items to put together a really fantastic Audrey Hepburn or Holly Golightly costume, so keep reading!

1. Opera gloves. How could you forget opera gloves? If you’d really like to look classy, try to find some above the elbow length gloves, which make for a more formal, elegant look. I’ve found some beautiful satin gloves in a vast array of colours, so you can do black for Holly Golightly or white/cream for a Princess Ann or Eliza Doolittle look.

Goodbye, José; please learn by example

Comments Off on Goodbye, José; please learn by example 09 September 2007

As many of you might know by now, last week José Luis de Vilallonga died at age 83. Jose was known in the Audrey Hepburn world as the man who played the dashing Brazilian boyfriend of Holly Golightly, José da Silva Pereira. José was a man of many talents, though, as he was also an author and a highly respected aristocrat, writing as a journalist and publishing the official biography of King Juan Carlos of Spain. You can read more about José’s fascinating life here.

How to look like Holly Golightly; Audrey interview from 1990

Comments Off on How to look like Holly Golightly; Audrey interview from 1990 28 August 2007

A few days ago I got a message from askmemakeup on You Tube, telling me about a new makeup video she’s done instructing women on how to get the Holly Golightly look in makeup. I watched it last night, and wow! It’s really good. I’ve always had a difficult time with false eyelashes (maybe due to my real eyelashes — they’ve been likened to giraffe eyelashes), but after watching this video I really want to try it again, and I have a good feeling I’d finally get it right. Watch for yourself, then try for yourself!

Audrey Hepburn: The Paramount Years is released!

1 Comment 03 April 2007

For those of you who haven’t marked every Audrey release on your calendar, Audrey Hepburn: The Paramount Years is now out! If you remember, there was a video review posted at the beginning of the month which had a good preview of what was in the book. That, along with the Search Inside! feature from Amazon, makes me very excited for this book. And now it’s finally here! Click the link above to buy through Amazon.

How to cook, Sabrina style

Comments Off on How to cook, Sabrina style 16 January 2007

Actually, maybe the headline should read “How Not To Cook Sabrina -Style,” since this article is about soufflés. We’ve long held the misconception that they’re incredibly hard to make and more delicate than eggshells, but The Chicagoist is out to prove that rumor wrong. A soufflé is sort of like a crème brûlée when it comes to ingredients and cooking, but the important part of the cooking of a soufflé is to not let it be exposed to any cool drafts while cooking or else it will collapse. (Can you tell I love to cook?) So here they give you an easier version of Martha Stewart’s chocolate soufflé recipe that it’s hard to fail on (though if you read the comments, step #2 forgets to stipulate that you are working with the egg yolks, not the whites. Big difference.) Also, cream of tartar is, in fact, important to the recipe because it stabilizes the eggs and prevents it from becoming chocolate soup. Unless you’re into that sort of thing, of course. So, without further ado, a chocolate soufflé recipe that even Sabrina Fairchild at her unhappiest couldn’t mess up.

Edit: Forgetting the cream of tartar will not, in fact, leave you with chocolate soup. I think the only way you can really get that is to pull a Sabrina and forget to turn the oven on at all. 🙂

the after-Christmas clean up

Comments Off on the after-Christmas clean up 26 December 2006

Well, I hope everyone had a good holiday, or is currently having a great holiday with Boxing Day or Kwanzaa! It’s nice to just sit back and relax for a bit, isn’t it? And eat too much, of course. 😉 I also hope you had a good, Audrey-filled holiday! But if you didn’t get a certain thing you wanted, don’t worry. Amazon always has low prices and ships pretty fast, so your after the holiday goodies can still get to you before the post-holiday blues really set in. Personally, I didn’t get a calendar, so I’m off to find one today. How could you not have an Audrey calendar when there’s so many to choose from?

‘Tis the season to give!

Comments Off on ‘Tis the season to give! 14 December 2006

I was going to save this for the New Year’s post, but since news is slow, we’re going to talk about charities. I know this is a hard time of year to think about handing over even more money than you probably already have, and some of us just don’t have money to throw around to begin with. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t do your bit for charity! Giving isn’t limited to money, as Audrey herself has shown. Here’s some alternative ways to do a good deed without sending yourself to the poorhouse:

shopping

Comments Off on shopping 02 December 2006

Since it’s that time of year (and since this is the only news coming in), here’s two little shopping tips.

Are you planning on getting anyone Audrey Style this year, or even maybe buying it for yourself? It may cost a little more than Amazon’s markdowns, but you can actually buy the book from UNICEF! It’s in the For Adults section, or you can just go straight here. You can even throw in Sean’s An Elegant Spirit, which is also available through the charity. If you’re going to be buying some Audrey gifts anyway, it might as well help out someone in need and brighten two lives at once. 🙂 Found through this article.
