January 2005

Rare German Audrey stamp found January 6th. A stamp collector in Germany was sent a batch of used stamps from a friend and found the rare, uncirculated Audrey stamp (using a Breakfast at Tiffany's picture) mixed in the batch. It's on display for now, but he's looking to sell eventually. For the full story, click here.

February 2005

New stage show on anorexia opens called In Audrey Hepburn's Arms posted February 11th. A new show in Wolverhampton, England (West Midlands) is set to open. It's from the point of view of a mother who has lost her daughter to anorexia and it seems to focus on thinness in Hollywood, particularly that of Audrey herself. It does mention the fact that Audrey was malnourished during the War and that it affected her the rest of her life, but it's hard to make a conclusion based on the small blurb on the website. To see the theatre's official page on the show click here.

The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund donates $100,000 in tsunami relief funds posted February 11th. On behalf of his mother's work with UNICEF and children all over the world, Sean Hepburn Ferrer donated $100,000 to the U.S. branch of UNICEF to help those ravaged by the recent tsunami devastation. If you would like to contribute via the Children's Fund, go here.

September 2005

Madame Tussaud's lets Audrey live in China posted September 19th. Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum chains are getting ready to open shop in Shanghai. Besides having wax replicas of China's stars (such as Jackie Chan), they opted for some well known international stars, Audrey being one of them. You can read the whole story here.

Renee Zellweger poised to step into Audrey's shoes? posted September 19th. From an article talking about the Renee/Kenny Chesney annulment I found an interesting bit of news. Renee is apparently studying for an upcoming role in a remake of Wait Until Dark? There's nothing on IMDb yet to confirm this report, but it doesn't sound off, either. The whole story can be found here.

Charade available for free download! posted October 11th. Due to negligence on someone's part, Charade has slipped through the copyright cracks and is now available to download on p2p programs. Click here to read the story and see what else may be available, and you can click here to read or add reviews and download the film (if you don't already own it). Enjoy!

Elizabethtown and Audrey posted October 13th. It seems that Cameron Crowe's latest film has a sort of Breakfast at Tiffany's motif to it. Kirsten Dunst's character Claire is supposed to be a Holly Golightly of sorts, and to beat that point home, clips of B@T and "Moon River" play throughout the movie. This article didn't really care for that comparison between Kirsten and Audrey.

Keira Knightley is our next Audrey? posted October 16th. There is apparently a new biopic on Audrey Hepburn in the works, and producers have already approached British actress Keira Knightley to play Audrey. There's no word on whether this film (if it's legit and if it ever gets made) is from the Hepburn family or if they're even aware of it yet. Say tuned here for any and all news links on the story. If it starts looking to be legitimate, I'll put up a special section for the film to hear what the fans think as it's happening. Read the original submitted story here. Other links: Galatta.com, Yahoo, Moviehold, and Insomniac Mania. They all say nearly exactly the same thing, save some fanboy drooling and a few snide mentions of Jennifer Love Hewitt's failed attempt to portray Audrey.
added 10/20/05: A good article (that I completely agree with) on the lastest trends towards women in British cinema, inspired by the latest string of Keira Knightley's films. It also talks about Keira's limited acting abilities and her comparison with Audrey. Click here to read it.
added 12/6/05: One more link to the same ol' story, this time with some words on Keira herself on possibly portraying Audrey. In this piece, she sounds much more formal and more lukewarm on the project, which makes me wonder. Dark Horizons has the story.

See Roman Holiday's original Vespa! posted October 17th. From the end of October to March of 2006, a motorbike exhibit will be on display in Milan. Included in this exhibit is none other than that famous little Vespa used to tear up Rome. Click here to see more about the exhibit and the details of its run.

Sean Ferrer follows in dad's footsteps posted October 17th. Sean Ferrer has finished an interesting sort of filmed autobiography on Albert Race Sample called Racehoss. He started this project about 10 years ago and actually introduced Albert to Audrey back in the day. Besides learning a little more about Sean himself, at the end of the article he talks a little about how Audrey influenced him and plugs The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund. You can go here for the article.

Lavender Hill Mob remake? posted on October 20th. It's listed on IMDb that a remake of The Lavender Hill Mob is in the works, but I'm doubtful. It was supposedly in pre-production since November of 2004, and nothing has been updated since. There's still not a single cast member listed and the screenplay is still credited to the original script, so I'm thinking it's just another Why Can't I Be Audrey Hepburn?. More news if/when it becomes available, of course.

A little history posted October 24th. Speaking of Why Can't I Be Audrey Hepburn?, a story came up about the writer today. Apparently, that was his first writing gig ever, and because of that script, he was hired on to do other TV writings. And he actually does one of the few shows I actually watch! Click here to read more about Ryan Murphy.

How to waste time posted on October 25th. This found its way into my inbox, and I actually really liked it. I know it's completely an ad for chocolates, but I also love suggestions telling you neat things to do that'll waste some time. :) #6 is the best, by the way. Click here.

Would Audrey have been as stellar today? posted October 25th. I've been thinking about this a lot recently, and it's comforting in a way to find that other people think the same way. This article talks about modern celebrities and why today's stars can't hold a candle to the stars of yesterday, especially women trying to be as elegant and classy as Audrey was. A very interesting read.

Money can't buy me class posted October 27th. Coleen McLoughlin is engaged to a famous football (soccer) star. Since she is appearing in the public more (and has already earned herself a derogatory nickname through her extensive use of neon tracksuits), she's decided to clean up her image by becoming a Hepburn clone. Cleaning up your wardrobe is excellent. Remember that this is often your first and only impression on people when you go out, so make it count! But don't go overboard and just copy. This will teach you what not to do if you'd like to change yourself. Remember that you have to stay yourself. Audrey was about making your own unique impression on the world.

Wait Until Dark in San Diego October 27-29th. I love hearing about old films showing in theatres, and I love to share this! If you're in the area or could afford a trip out there to see this, I'm sure it would be worth it. Admission is $12. Click here and scroll down to the film section for full information.

Ignorance sells, apparently posted October 27th. Don't you just hate it when people loudly state their opinions as fact? Over and over again? Especially when they're wrong? Me too. That's why I'm pointing this out, an ignoramus who makes his living off of the fashion world but doesn't feel above biting every hand that feeds him. Today's vendetta seems to be against Audrey Hepburn not being a C cup and being a Marilyn clone. So shoot her. Anyways, he's saying all this to further hype his book, which is soon to be made into a movie. Convenient? You bet!

Wait Until Dark a top scarer posted October 28th. According to the Bravo Channel, Wait Until Dark is number ten in their Top 100 Sacriest Movie Moments. Yes, I know it says "moments," but according to this, all they give is movies, not specific moments. Silly. But still, I'm sure you all know that they're talking about the climaxes of these films. I say that's not bad for a lesser-known Audrey film! To see the full list and find air times to watch the special, click here.

The Top 100 Entertainment Icons of the Century posted October 28th. Variety magazine has released a compendum of the top 100 icons, according to themselves, their readers, and industry insiders. The results can be seen here. The entries aren't numbered, but if I counted right, Audrey should be number 43. Her entry is on page 8, if you'd rather just skip straight to her.

The Top 100 Most Iconic Moments in Cinema posted October 28th. Variety is turning 100, and seemingly releasing 100 "Top" lists! This next list talks about the most memorable moments in films, and while this list has only been unveiled from numbers 71 through 100, My Fair Lady hit the charts at number 82. You can go here to view the list so far and check back every week for more.

The 100 Best Moments in Film Music posted October 28th. Yes, more Variety lists. Again, this has only been partially unveiled, but Charade's entire soundtrack made number 85, as you can see here. I'm sure there will be more Audrey film music mentioned, especially "Moon River."

The 100 Best of Awards Fashion posted October 28th. This list actually hasn't mentioned Audrey yet. But I'm quite confident they will, so I'm jumping the gun and posting the list so far here. Stay tuned!

November 2005

Two For the Road finally released on DVD! to be released November 1st. After years and years of waiting, my favourite Audrey film is finally coming out on DVD! You can pre-order through Amazon by clicking here.

Be Cointreauversial posted October 27th. Cointreau drinks and Getty Images have joined forces to bring you "Cointreauversial" people in history: people who have broken boundaries and set new limits in society and the world. Audrey is featured, naturally! So if you're in London from November 3-26, go to the Getty Images Gallery and check it out. For full details, admission information and contact information, click here.

Fundraising the Audrey way posted November 1st. For a good time and a good cause, a Santa Clarita hospital threw an Audrey-inspired fundraiser last week on the 23rd to raise money. It apparently did quite well, and if you'll click here, you can see what all happened and read accounts from members that participated in the event. I wish more events were like this.

Six degrees of Annie and something new posted November 4th. In a funny article telling how the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game can be turned into a "Six Degrees of Annie" game, Kyle Lawson mentions the fact that Audrey made an uncredited cameo in a Paul Newman film. This was definitely news to me, so I of course had to share! Hit the link here to read the whole article and learn more than you ever wanted tying the orphan to everything and everyone.

The Lampert Sofa: worthy of Reggie? posted November 4th. Retro designer Jonathan Adler loves mixing modern and retro in his furniture designs, and two pieces from his latest collection reveal some Audrey love. The Lampert Sofa and Lounger are in honour of Audrey's character in Charade, and if the pictures in the article are in fact that sofa and lounger, I really could see Audrey relaxing on those. I like it, even if it does remind me of old pictures of my grandma. :) Go here for the full story and pictures.

My Fair Lady to play at the Hippodrome November 9th through December 3rd. Actresses Amy Nuttall and Lisa O'Hare will be splitting the role of Eliza, and Christopher Cazenove will star as Professor Higgins in the latest run of the revival of the play. For showtimes, ticket prices and contact information, click here.

From the Diary of Anne Frank returns November 11th. After a 15-year hibernation, the much talked-about Anne Frank excerpt show that Audrey performed as a benefit for UNICEF is back. It will be playing one night only in the Philippines. The author of this article regrets the fact that more people don't know about Anne or have read her diaries and writes a very wonderful piece on the upcoming show and its need to stay in circulation. To read the whole story and get ticket information, click here.

UNICEF's annual Snowflake Ball November 28th. Every year, UNICEF throws a grand party to honor humanitarians and further fundraise. They also give out an Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award, and this year is no exception. If your life's savings is burning a hole in your pocket or you just happen to be insanely rich and spend your time here, click here for more information on the gala itself and information to purchase tickets.

Dolce Italia: The Beautiful Life of Italy in the Fifties and Sixties posted December 11th. A new star-studded coffee table book on the golden days of Italy. And what golden Italian book would be complete without a few pictures of Audrey Hepburn on a Vespa? You can see the full article here, and you can also buy it through Amazon.

Breakfast at Tiffany's ornaments for your Christmas tree! posted December 13th. I know it's a little late in the month to post this, but I just found out myself. You can buy a set of four Breakfast at Tiffany's ornaments for your Christmas tree, walls, whatever you like to decorate. They're the same art from the tin collectibles that have been coming out lately (like the lunch box and the storage tins), so they could be kept out year-round. So far I've found two Internet retailers after a quick search, if you can't find them in person: Giftapolis for $24.95 US, and Nextag for the same price. They're the same price at the store I found them at, so if you're strapped for cash or just can't justify paying that much, your best bet would be to either beg for it as a present or wait for the after Christmas sales. :)

Profiles in History auctions Audrey costume sketches December 16th. Going up on the block this time are two costume sketches from The Nun's Story, as well as Eliza Doolittle's beautiful ballgown sketch from My Fair Lady and a background actor's ballgown sketch. You can download an auction catalog for free here, off the official website. The auction is number 23 and the PDF you download is a full-colour catalogue, so you can get a good view of the sketches going up. You can also watch the bidding live online through their site or eBay, and if you live in the Hollywood area, you could actually sit in on the live auctions!

eat with Audrey at Scarlatto's posted December 16th. The next time you're in the neighborhood of Broadway and Eighth in New York, head on in to Scarlatto's at 250 W. 47th St. for some fine Roman lunching. If you're lucky, you might get seated under a giant picture of Princess Anne tearing up the town on a Vespa. The original article with prices can be found here, and the official website can be found here.
