Audrey Hepburn: A Life In Pictures

forward by Hubert de Givenchy

There haven't been nearly enough picture books featuring Audrey Hepburn lately. Well, maybe there has, but there hasn't been one that's really thick and sturdy, worthy of being placed prominently on a coffee table and strong enough to be manhandled by your friends while still looking beautiful. Anova Books realized this and put together a beautiful, thick hardbound book on Audrey that's pretty much strictly pictures. I am not complaining in the least, because I'm one of those people who will immediately look at all the pictures first before reading a word of text in any Audrey book. I love reading about her and learning about her, but let's be honest: she's a joy to look at and I'm going to look as much as possible. So, besides a lovely, brief forward by Audrey's dear friend and designer Hubert de Givenchy and a good 12 page biography of Audrey, this book is all pictures.

Besides the hardcover binding, this book stands out from the rest for featuring mostly full-page pictures as well. What's the point of showcasing a rare or never before seen photograph if it's going to be postage stamp-sized? Again, Anova doesn't skimp and lets every picture have plenty of breathing room. This makes the book a good inch thick as well, which makes you even more excited when you finally pick up your copy. There's a lot of pictures in that inch! With a good blend of familiar and unseen pictures in this book, it's the perfect book to hand to a friend or new Audrey fan to let them really enjoy Audrey Hepburn as a beautiful face. My only complaint is that some of the notations for the pictures are incorrect, which really doesn't make any difference but may confuse new fans. My copy was an advance, though, so they could all be fixed by now. Either way, don't let that detract from your full enjoyment of this utterly fantastic book!
