Ok! Thursday night, about 7:40, my date and I rode up on his Vespa, and parked it outside 8949 Wilshire Blvd. Once inside, we entered a huge auditorium, with red curtains covering the screen. It was pretty full. We walked to the front, and saw a section about half a dozen rows back reserved for the Ferrers, the Kanins, and the Wylers. I believe the Pecks were part of the Ferrer party. I didn't see their signs. :-) So... now that we knew they would be there, we took the two aisle seats right in front of the Ferrer section. I anxiously looked over my shoulder for the next 20 minutes trying to see when Sean came in. When he finally did, he had his back to me for a while, and when he turned around, I barely recognized him. But after eavesdropping on his conversations in English and French with people around him about his speech, we determined it WAS him. A little after 8... I don't have my program with me right now... but a woman in charge of the Academy, last name Kanin, spoke, told us the story of Greg [Peck] letting Audrey have her name above the title. Then Sean went up to speak. He brought Greg's daughter up too, because I think he was planning to tell the same story. So they talked, and told us that her daughters name is Ondine, and his son is Gregorio. Then the curtains parted and the movie started. Everyone clapped for ummm ARG I can't remember his name now. The original writer's name. Trumbo? Anyway... the movie was so great in the theater, with everyone laughing. And so many things i hadn't seen before. Expressions on some people's faces, and some continuity errors! Lol. It ended, and all thru the last scene, I was just getting colder and colder. perhaps I was forgetting to breathe. Because I had to make sure to talk with Sean after the movie. So when he got up, I got up, tapped him on his arm, and said "Mr. Ferrer?" I introduced myself, we talked a few minutes about something I'm not sure I can discuss here yet. ;-) He turned away for a minute, and then [webmaster]'s sister came up to me, and we chatted. :-) Then he turned back, and we found Ellen [from the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund], from the Children's Fund, and talked some more. Sean excused himself, touched my elbow and said, "it was nice to meet you" with a little smile. I talked with Ellen and Ronnie a bit more, then we walked out. My boyfriend and I asked someone to take our picture on his Vespa (must have Vespa pictures!) and while we were finishing up, we saw Sean and his crew come out of the building, and I think he saw us as we were preparing to hop on the Vespa. A woman getting into her car next to us (we were parked on the sidewalk) asked if I was Audrey's granddaughter, and of course, I said no, but wouldn't that be cool. ;-) So Sean got in his limo, we got on our Vespa, and that was that. :-) A thrilling night in L.A.
Thanks Kendal! Between Kendal and myself (the webmaster), we'll try to bring you firsthand accounts of any and all Audrey related events in L.A. Her Vespa pictures will be up soon. :)
