show us your Audrey style

No Comments 15 October 2007

I’ve noticed that lots of people have been coming here for Audrey Hepburn or Holly Golightly costume tips, and it got me curious. I would love to see what you guys look like dressed as Audrey! So I have a proposition for you: if you feel comfortable with this, I would love to see pictures of you dressed in your Audrey Hepburn best. It could be your Halloween costume or just an everyday outfit, but take a pic and send it in! They will be posted here and on our MySpace blog (with first name only, no full names for privacy and safety), and you will automatically be entered in our latest contest. One first place winner and two runners-up will be chosen at random by names drawn out of a hat. I must stress that you will not in any way be judged by your appearance or looks for this contest. It is strictly for fun and to encourage other fans to dress up and show off!

you could be the next Eliza Doolittle

No Comments 02 October 2007

Have you ever dreamed of succeeding Audrey Hepburn in the coveted role of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady? That just might be in your future soon. According to The Sun, a British tabloid, the 50 year old musical might possibly be the next in a line of recent successful reality casting shows where average Joes and Janes like you and me compete to be the lead in a big Broadway musical. (You may be familiar with “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?” which was a casting show for The Sound of Music revival.) Nothing is set in stone yet, but BBC executives are also looking at Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber to appear on the show. So if you’re in the UK and have absolutely no stage fright whatsoever at the thought of singing on TV in front of millions for the chance to be the next Audrey Hepburn, start warming up those vocal cords now! the Audrey Hepburn Community

No Comments 13 April 2007

The Audrey Hepburn Community has really been taking off lately! I’ve had to add a second page to fit all of the new members, which you can see here. So if you’re looking for a new friend who just happens to be a fellow Audrey fan, you might want to give this place a shot. We’ve got people from all over the world signing up, including fans from Spain, Greece, the UK and the US.

In other virtual news, Second Style Magazine, an e-zine dedicated to Second Life, is having a Fashion Challenge: Inspired by Audrey Hepburn. I’ll admit I’m a pretty big Sims nut (I may even have an Audrey Hepburn Sim in one of my neighborhoods . . .), but I’m totally out of the loop on this Second Life stuff. Anyway, it seems to be a massive online community of virtual people representing real people, and you can buy clothes and jewelry and other perks to spice up your virtual self. If you’re into this sort of thing, you can dress your Second self in the most Audrey-inspired way you can, enter the contest, and win some virtual money! Along with some virtual jewels. Click the fashion challenge above for more information on how to enter, including picture uploading guidelines and contest rules.

"It’s just another form of expression"

No Comments 14 November 2006

I’ve been thinking up a new project for the site, and hopefully tomorrow it’ll be up and running. It actually would have been today, but certain programs decided to be fussy today, so tomorrow it is. (Thanks, Adobe.) Anyway, people from all over the world come and visit the site, and they seem to be a little shy about speaking up on the site, so maybe the language barrier has something to do with it. On this new page, people can talk about why they love Audrey and what makes her so special in any language they like, and it will be posted completely unedited for anyone to read, along with the author’s favourite picture of Audrey. This way other visitors who may not be comfortable with English can still get the message about why Audrey is still so loved today, and maybe your words will make a new fan! So start thinking in any and all languages you know, and tomorrow will have the information you need to start sharing your thoughts.

more "Funny Face"

No Comments 04 November 2006

I’m sorry I didn’t get around to posting last night, but I was hard at work. I’ve found a new way to get higher quality screengrabs, and while the process takes about three times as long, the pictures themselves are about a thousand times better and so worth it. Which means I’ll eventually have to go back and re-grab Charade and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but not just yet. Here’s the link to the new gallery, and here’s a sneak preview:

What ever happened to class?

No Comments 20 October 2006

Well, now that Lotta and Carl have won the first contest, the news has slowed to a crawl (though if Carl doesn’t claim his prize soon, I might redraw for it!). I guess the Gap commercials being over has really dried up the flow for a while . . . until the dress goes on auction and more books come out. But I have found one article that hasn’t been rehashed a million times that is a pretty good read. It talks about the lame excuse for role models in American society today and how their complete ignorance of fashion (and even of dressing themselves) is reflecting on young girls and young women and making us into a nation of tarts. Here’s my favourite line:

What ever happened to the era of chic, the era of Audrey Hepburn, when women acted and dressed like ladies? Many women prattle on and on about how the sexual revolution liberated them — and yet they still feel compelled to attract male attention by dressing badly. That’s slavery, not liberation.

You can read the whole article here, and even if these sorts of articles aren’t your cup of tea, please take the last sentence of the article to heart. It seems to have been forgotten lately in society.

This time it was me

I’m sorry it took so long to get the contest going. I was out shopping around for the book itself (Treasures), since Amazon didn’t have it in stock as of 3 in the afternoon. (???) I got to look over the book at some leisure, playing with all those wonderful inserts they’ve put in and ogling the pictures. Ooh, someone is going to be very happy when they win this book! To try your luck, just go to the contests page and leave your name and email address. The winner and runner-up will be notified via email once the contest is over and they will send their shipping information then. Winner and runner-up will be chosen at random — out of a hat, if you must know.
