The Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund is rewarded; what are you doing this weekend?

Comments Off on The Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund is rewarded; what are you doing this weekend? 30 June 2007

Designs of Hope, a specialized set of fundraisers that take place across America to benefit UNICEF, has come in ahead of schedule in their goal to raise $5 million for orphans with AIDS in five years. This year they held a series of galas which featured the finest in food and fashion, finishing on a high note in Houston, Texas, with a fashion tribute to Audrey Hepburn. Honored at the June 8 event was actress Jane Seymour, for her ongoing humanitarian efforts, and the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund, for their work with women and children affected by AIDS. There was an Audrey-inspired fashion show, as well. You can read more about the Designs of Hope events here, since this was sadly their last year.

Audrey Hepburn’s inner beauty dictated her outer beauty

Comments Off on Audrey Hepburn’s inner beauty dictated her outer beauty 01 May 2007

An article from the Daily Collegian discusses fashion icons and what made them tick, and Audrey is one of the lucky few mentioned. She’s still noted daily as an icon to many people, but today’s article has a nice bit added from Sean Ferrer that gives a little more insight into why Audrey’s fashion sense stood out from all the rest. I won’t spoil it for you, so click here to read the article for yourself (there are two short pages in total, and Audrey is on both). I will, however, say that it has a lot to do with inner beauty, and how clothes are just an extension of what’s inside you.

Audrey Hepburn’s first screen test

Comments Off on Audrey Hepburn’s first screen test 23 February 2007

The British Film Institute is teaming up with Hewlett-Packard to publicize more than 300 film clips from their vast archives. A new “mediateque,” a sort of mini-film theatre, will open March 14 in London’s South Bank and will be completely free and open to the public. Audrey Hepburn’s first screen test ever will be available, along with Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation and early Victorian films. BFI also hopes to release around 300 more clips before the end of the year to the general public. You can read more here.

"Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s" — a new book!

Comments Off on "Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s" — a new book! 18 January 2007

There’s yet another new picture book coming out on Audrey! This one, called Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s: Photographs by Howell Conant, features pictures of Audrey onset for publicity photos and candid pictures during filming of her most iconic film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The description on GermanArtBooks.com, which has the most information I can find yet, says that there are also fashion shoots, but it’s unclear if they are Tiffany’s related or not. All photos in the book were taken by Conant, who was also a good friend of Grace Kelly’s, and there is some text written by actress Leslie Caron (who was often referred to as “The Other Audrey Hepburn”). And here is the release information for various countries — at least as much as I could find at this time:

Style and Substance, une nouvelle biographie, and more Funny Face

Comments Off on Style and Substance, une nouvelle biographie, and more Funny Face 06 January 2007

First off, another big thank you to Franklin, who has made us aware of a new French biography on Audrey. Audrey Hepburn, by Christian Dureau, was released November 9 2006, and while there doesn’t seem to be very much information on it (at least on the French Amazon), it is 109 pages and available for €14,16. Judging from the author’s other works, it seems like this biography is pretty barebones (the page count seems to say so, too) and wouldn’t say anything new to the reader. There are also no reviews up anywhere that I can find, so it’s hard to say for sure whether it’s worth it. If my French were a little less rusty, I’d give it a go!

calendars, calendars, calendars

So I wasn’t able to find an Audrey calendar the other day. And on Amazon all calendars “ship in 4-6 weeks.” By then January will be over! But while I couldn’t find any Audrey calendars, I did stumble across some other excellent calendars you might be interested in.

affordable Audrey style — and are the new Wayfarers out already?

Comments Off on affordable Audrey style — and are the new Wayfarers out already? 22 December 2006

News is still very slow here — is everyone on vacation but me? But there is a new boutique in Palo Alto, California, which has a very prominent Audrey style. While their website is still pretty bare bones for now, Vian Hunter is already making a name for themselves with their affordable, chic women’s clothes. There’s even an LBD (that’s little black dress, for those of you who might be out of touch) named the Audrey! If you live nearby and stop in for a peek, you might even catch a glimpse of Audrey herself — rather, a film of hers playing. And to make up for the website still being under construction, they have a printable colouring book with their designs to download, completely free.
