More Holly Golightly/Audrey Hepburn costume tips

No Comments 03 October 2007

If you missed it the first time around, here’s part one of the costume tips. I’ve found even more great items to put together a really fantastic Audrey Hepburn or Holly Golightly costume, so keep reading!

1. Opera gloves. How could you forget opera gloves? If you’d really like to look classy, try to find some above the elbow length gloves, which make for a more formal, elegant look. I’ve found some beautiful satin gloves in a vast array of colours, so you can do black for Holly Golightly or white/cream for a Princess Ann or Eliza Doolittle look.

Audrey Hepburn is still hip

No Comments 10 March 2007

In the midst of Paris Fashion Week and all the new collections coming out for fall 2007, it’s nice to hear that Audrey Hepburn is still alive and well on the catwalks. In spite (or because?) of Gap’s usage of her last year, women everywhere still aspire to her cigarette trousers, little black dresses, large glasses, and all around aura of sophistication and class. Bend Weekly has an article discussing Audrey’s lasting power in the world of fashion and even provide a checklist to make sure you have all the Audrey essentials in your closet. Remember, Holly Golightly had a small, bare closet in her flat, but she still managed to always look smashing. If she can do it, you can do it.

iconic hairstyles and the sinking of the Gap ship

No Comments 12 January 2007

Because January is a slow month, a list has come out with the top 5 Iconic Hairstyles. Audrey’s famous pineapple ‘do from Breakfast at Tiffany’s came in at #3. The other wavemakers (har har) on the list included Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, and Bob Marley. If you’re really interested, the whole article can be found here.

"They All Laughed" review, more ideas for Gap-style ads

No Comments 07 November 2006

There’s a pretty modest review of They All Laughed here — I like how the rating is “polite applause” — but it does give a good background on the movie and make me more curious to finally see it myself.

more "Funny Face"

No Comments 04 November 2006

I’m sorry I didn’t get around to posting last night, but I was hard at work. I’ve found a new way to get higher quality screengrabs, and while the process takes about three times as long, the pictures themselves are about a thousand times better and so worth it. Which means I’ll eventually have to go back and re-grab Charade and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but not just yet. Here’s the link to the new gallery, and here’s a sneak preview:

DVD releases, tributes

"Still our Fair Lady," plus "Gardens of the World"

No Comments 02 November 2006

There’s a short article talking about Audrey’s newfound popularity, especially with the recent Gap ads and the new Treasures book. It’s very short (I’ve told you pretty much all that’s in it already), but you can see the full article here.

Next up, thanks to the Audrey Hepburn Circle, I’ve found that the Gardens of the World miniseries now has their own website up! It’s a very Audrey-centric site, and goes more into detail on what’s in the new special edition DVD set, but the best part is Audrey’s full written introduction to the original series and an interview with her about the series. All in all it’s a nice site and definitely worth sharing, so click here to visit for yourself.

FINALLY! New pictures, and the minute-long Gap commercial

No Comments 27 October 2006

Thankfully my home didn’t decide to burn down (yet), so I was able to get up 229 pictures for you! This gallery is just miscellaneous pictures from throughout the 1950s, like modeling pictures and candids. You can go straight to the gallery by clicking here, if you’d like.

Next up, someone finally got the 60 second Gap commercial back on You Tube! I’ll always kick myself for not downloading it right away. The sound isn’t quite synched up at the beginning, but I’ll take what I can get right now.

Edit: video has been removed from YouTube

I found a review of the new They All Laughed DVD on USA Today, and they didn’t seem to care about it too much. It rated 2 1/2 stars out of four, and no bonus features are listed. (The only ones I know about so far are a commentary with director Peter Bogdanovich and an interview with him and fellow director/fan Wes Anderson.) You can see their review here, about halfway down the page.

And lastly, Ray-Ban is bringing back some classic shades. The Wayfarers, worn in many classic movies like The Blues Brothers and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, are coming back from the dead, for the price of $129. There’s apparently going to be a pretty big media blitz to stir up more interest in the shades (and to try and get away with their major price inflation), so maybe we’ll see some more use of Audrey in ad campaigns? The most important part of the story is here, but if you want to read more, you’ll have to subscribe to The Wall Street Journal. Lame.

P.S. I’m having trouble deciding what I want to give away in the next contest, so maybe you could help us out! There’s a poll on the contests page, so vote on what you’d like to see given away next. If you want to suggest something that’s not listed, simply click on the “something not listed here” button, then drop us a line saying what you would like to see. We’ll take all suggestions seriously, as long as you don’t suggest us buying the Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress and then giving it away. Don’t you dare! 🙂

More pictures of Natalie Portman in Audrey’s dress

No Comments 26 October 2006

I found another short article on Natalie Portman wearing Audrey’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress (actually, one Audrey didn’t wear), which you can find here. It has a couple more pictures of Nat in the dress, including a full-length which shows her wearing ugly shoes. They look like deck shoes, but with a heel. Ick.
