During her later years in life, Audrey Hepburn gave Givenchy a break and started to dress more casually. For her Gardens of the World series, and for her numerous UNICEF trips, she favoured Ralph Lauren’s stylish yet casual Polo shirts and khaki pants with Keds flats to get her through the day. She became quite chummy with Ralph as well, and even presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award (through the Council for American Fashion Designers, left) in 1992.

For those of you who either don’t own or just haven’t seen the new Gardens of the World DVD set, there is a bonus disc filled with outtakes and other goodies. One clip in particular is worth it alone. It’s the official dedication/unveiling of the Audrey Hepburn tulip, a lovely long-necked white flower. The ceremony took place on a rainy day at Huis Doorn, the manor house that used to be owned by Audrey’s family before the war. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but you should definitely watch if you want to see Audrey speaking her native Dutch:

Thanks to Ankit’s sharp eyes, we can now see video footage of the dedication of the first of many new Indian schools, paid for by Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress. It shows Dominique Lapierre and his wife arriving at the school, plus some children performing songs and dances to celebrate their new school. Dominique himself has a bit to say about Audrey, and the clip also shows the December 2006 auction of the dress in London, plus footage of the lovely Audrey herself in the iconic first scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I’ve been thinking up a new project for the site, and hopefully tomorrow it’ll be up and running. It actually would have been today, but certain programs decided to be fussy today, so tomorrow it is. (Thanks, Adobe.) Anyway, people from all over the world come and visit the site, and they seem to be a little shy about speaking up on the site, so maybe the language barrier has something to do with it. On this new page, people can talk about why they love Audrey and what makes her so special in any language they like, and it will be posted completely unedited for anyone to read, along with the author’s favourite picture of Audrey. This way other visitors who may not be comfortable with English can still get the message about why Audrey is still so loved today, and maybe your words will make a new fan! So start thinking in any and all languages you know, and tomorrow will have the information you need to start sharing your thoughts.

Finally, the Roman Holiday screengrabs are here. There’s 469 grabs for your enjoyment, and I must say this was a really fun one to work on. I mean, they all are, but I loved this film even more after doing the grabs, and it reminded me of just how much I loved all the authentic Italian talent they had in this film. I will always love Mario Delani, the barber.

I’ve found a new way to get higher quality screengrabs, and while the process takes about three times as long, the pictures themselves are about a thousand times better and so worth it. Next up, thanks to the Audrey Hepburn Circle, I’ve found that the Gardens of the World miniseries now has their own website up! It’s a very Audrey-centric site, and goes more into detail on what’s in the new special edition DVD set, but the best part is Audrey’s full written introduction to the original series and an interview with her about the series.
