Christie’s, the Queen, anorexia, and more dolls (and more)

Comments Off on Christie’s, the Queen, anorexia, and more dolls (and more) 24 November 2006

To make up for not updating too much lately, I scoured the Internet yesterday (before cooking the best dinner ever eaten) and found lots of great stuff to share.

But the first item comes from the wonderful Franklin, who let us know that Christie’s now has the December catalogue up, and it’s auctioning 20 Audrey items! I’d last heard there would be the Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress and two Charade dresses, but nowhere near around 20 different items. There’s actually 21, if you count two photo collections going up that feature portraits of Audrey. Anyway, Christie’s is good enough to have good-sized pictures of each item next to a description (and heart-stopping estimate of the sale in British pounds), so you can see just the Audrey items here. And if you’re too lazy to look, here’s some pictures:

"It’s just another form of expression"

Comments Off on "It’s just another form of expression" 14 November 2006

I’ve been thinking up a new project for the site, and hopefully tomorrow it’ll be up and running. It actually would have been today, but certain programs decided to be fussy today, so tomorrow it is. (Thanks, Adobe.) Anyway, people from all over the world come and visit the site, and they seem to be a little shy about speaking up on the site, so maybe the language barrier has something to do with it. On this new page, people can talk about why they love Audrey and what makes her so special in any language they like, and it will be posted completely unedited for anyone to read, along with the author’s favourite picture of Audrey. This way other visitors who may not be comfortable with English can still get the message about why Audrey is still so loved today, and maybe your words will make a new fan! So start thinking in any and all languages you know, and tomorrow will have the information you need to start sharing your thoughts.

Audrey is not Posh; an Audrey group worth visiting

Comments Off on Audrey is not Posh; an Audrey group worth visiting 24 October 2006

I found a hilarious article about Victoria Beckham (formerly Posh Spice) today. She apparently has a new book out on style, and she keeps insisting that Audrey Hepburn is her biggest fashion inspiration. I must admit that I don’t know a lot about Victoria, since I don’t read tabloids (UK or otherwise) and I’ve always made it a point to ignore prefab bands, even when my sister and ex-boyfriend were so into the Spice Girls. The only things I do know about her is: she was the worst singer of the Spice Girls, to me; she’s had her breasts done and they look like halved grapefruits; and she should be a fashion idol to no one. But back on topic, the reviewer in this article is a UKer and no fan of Victoria, as evinced by this excerpt:

videos about the "Breakfast at Tiffany’s" dress going to auction

Comments Off on videos about the "Breakfast at Tiffany’s" dress going to auction 13 October 2006

I found some videos from various news shows across the U.S. that talk about the upcoming auction of the long black dress from BAT. And might I just add I giant “I KNEW IT!” because this clip states that “according to Givenchy [who donated the dress], this is not the dress worn in the film. There are three dresses; one is in the costume museum in Madrid, and one is in Givenchy’s own personal archives in Paris. This is the only dress that will ever come on the market.” The model wearing the dress in this clip reminds me of Selma Blair, and she’s obviously a wee bit short for the dress. (Note: you have to sit through a short ad before the news clip itself plays, and you can’t skip it or fast forward through it. So don’t worry, I didn’t give you the wrong link.)

The next clip just talks a bit more about the background of the dress (Givenchy shipped the designs out and Edith Head’s people made 3 copies) and shows the model walking out to the picture window to halfway recreate the opening of the film. Maybe it’s just me, but doesn’t the dress seem less special if everyone gets to wear it? Especially since Audrey herself might not have ever put it on. I dunno.
