Exciting news for all you aspiring Holly Golightlys out there! Tiffany & Co. has announced that they are launching a new chain of jewelry stores that are more widely available, and with more affordable merchandise. The new shops, which will be much smaller and offer most of Tiffany’s selection — barring their trademark engagement rings — will be called Tiffany & Co. Collections. The first such shop is set to open sometime in 2008, though I’m not sure where. You can read more about the new line here, if you’d like. No word on whether or not they will engrave Cracker Jack rings for you, or if you can have breakfast at these shops.
Okay everybody, someone needs your help! Today I received a letter from a nice fellow who would really like to find an exact replica of Holly’s cat mask from the five and dime in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. He’s searched everywhere and I’ve searched everywhere and we can’t seem to find it. Has anyone ever come across this mask, or know of a place that makes these now? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, especially if it could be ordered online and shipped before Halloween. Just leave a comment below, and thank you in advance!
By now you know how to live like Holly Golightly, have her clawfoot bathtub-turned sofa, have the wardrobe and sleep mask, but what’s missing? Ah! The blue tasseled earplugs she uses to block out the noise of New York, the telephone (though stuck in a suitcase), and that pesky door buzzer. Thankfully, some clever person at ecrater.com has come to our rescue and made a replica of Holly’s earplugs for you to wear, and they actually reduce noise as well.
By now you’ve all seen the screengrabs from a recent episode of “Gossip Girl” where main character Blair dreams that she’s Holly Golightly in the opening scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Apparently, Blair is something of a fan of Audrey throughout the show, because reader Cris wrote and asked if I had a copy of the picture Blair has hanging above her bed, which is Audrey Hepburn in profile. I had to watch an episode to see it, but here’s the picture in question:
Hope this made your day, Cris! And any other “Gossip Girl”/Audrey fans looking for that picture. And here’s a fun bit of trivia for you: this picture is part of a series Audrey did where she modeled hats for her friend and designer, Givenchy.
I’ve just found an excellent story that I’m sure everyone will love! From the North Devon Gazette comes the story of John Pollitt, an 84 year old retired metalworker who hasn’t painted in more than 50 years. A while ago he was in a video store and came across Breakfast at Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady. Intrigued, he bought the films and watched them at home and wanted to know more about leading lady Audrey Hepburn. He then bought a book biography on her and started watching biography programs on her when they were on TV, and finally dusted off his paint supplies and started painting her. So far there are 16 portraits of Audrey, from Audrey as Holly Golightly to Audrey in her final role as Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF, holding a small child. You can read the full, wonderful story here, which I highly recommend.
I just love reading stories like this, don’t you?

But if you would like to watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s for a little help and inspiration and don’t have a copy available, you may want to go here and watch it on YouTube. I don’t know how long it will be up, but enjoy it while you can! And leave a thank you for the person who was kind enough to put it up for everyone to enjoy.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that eagle-eyed reader Amy Beth has spotted another great Audrey-style dress from Target. This one is the Merona Full Skirt TRW dress and has a tie-front waist and a flared skirt, very cute and stylish, and not unlike Holly Golightly’s tie-front dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. You can see the picture to the left and learn more about the dress by clicking on the name.
It seems I’ve been remiss in my duties again. A lot of women have been searching for Audrey Hepburn, Holly Golightly, or Breakfast at Tiffany’s sewing patterns so they can make their own costumes for Halloween (or everyday life, because Audrey Hepburn is year-round!), and I just left you to your own devices. I’ve felt guilty, though, and all day yesterday I scoured the Internet for suitable patterns to make you dream Audrey costume. Be prepared and take notes, because there’s a lot here! I’m also going to make this a regular theme, updating once a season for any new patterns, so check back once in a while for new goodies.
It seems that just last month Breakfast at Tiffany’s was voted the most the Most Fashionable Film in movie history, and this month Teen Vogue follows suit with their list of Hollywood’s Most Stylish Movies. In the number one spot? Breakfast at Tiffany’s, of course! The list is actually a little surprising for a fashion film list and includes a lot of films I wouldn’t have pegged the Teen Vogue crowd as ever having seen, let alone see as fashion icons. It’s a very pleasant surprise, though, and makes Breakfast’s win even sweeter. To see the whole list for yourself, go here.
