A Tiffany store even Holly Golightly could afford

1 Comment 24 October 2007

Exciting news for all you aspiring Holly Golightlys out there! Tiffany & Co. has announced that they are launching a new chain of jewelry stores that are more widely available, and with more affordable merchandise. The new shops, which will be much smaller and offer most of Tiffany’s selection — barring their trademark engagement rings — will be called Tiffany & Co. Collections. The first such shop is set to open sometime in 2008, though I’m not sure where. You can read more about the new line here, if you’d like. No word on whether or not they will engrave Cracker Jack rings for you, or if you can have breakfast at these shops.

More Holly Golightly/Audrey Hepburn costume tips

No Comments 03 October 2007

If you missed it the first time around, here’s part one of the costume tips. I’ve found even more great items to put together a really fantastic Audrey Hepburn or Holly Golightly costume, so keep reading!

1. Opera gloves. How could you forget opera gloves? If you’d really like to look classy, try to find some above the elbow length gloves, which make for a more formal, elegant look. I’ve found some beautiful satin gloves in a vast array of colours, so you can do black for Holly Golightly or white/cream for a Princess Ann or Eliza Doolittle look.

It’s that time of year again … Halloween! And I’ve noticed that a lot of people have been searching for an Audrey Hepburn costume, so here’s everything you need all in one convenient post. Look like Audrey Hepburn with Filthy Rich

No Comments 18 March 2007

AZCentral.com has a story up about a hot new jewelry franchise called Filthy Rich. This store specializes in licensed reproductions of movie and celebrity jewelry, like Audrey’s pieces from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. While their website is still under construction, you can see a few Marilyn Monroe reproductions on Be The Boss, as well as franchise information if you were interested in selling their jewelry yourself. In the article from AZ Central, owner Laurin Ogawa (who started the business with her mum) says that the Marilyn jewelry and the Audrey Hepburn pieces always do well with the young girls. It’s nice to know that young girls aspire to dress and look like Audrey above some contemporary role models they could choose from.

Audrey Hepburn and Tiffany & Co.

No Comments 17 February 2007

I was out in a familiar neighborhood today and had some time to kill, so I stopped in a tiny bookstore to browse in. As I passed the art and photography books I noticed The Audrey Hepburn Treasures prominently displayed, which made me smile. On the next shelf over, however, were two Tiffany books worth looking over.

The first, Tiffany Pearls, has been mentioned here before, and showcases Tiffany’s many masterpieces involving pearls. Audrey, as Holly Golightly, is featured on the front cover and on the inside of the dust jacket. I had never looked over the book in person, and now that I have I must say that you’d either have to be an obsessive Audrey Hepburn collector or just really like pearls to buy this book. Audrey herself is hardly mentioned despite her covergirl appeal, and the pictures in the book are nothing we haven’t seen before. It is a beautiful book to look over, though. (For the record, the pearl strands Audrey is wearing in the film are in fact imitation pearls used many times by Paramount Studios.)

Katie Couric has an Audrey Hepburn birthday; Audrey teaches a lesson

No Comments 15 January 2007

You might have heard about this already, but for news anchor Katie Couric’s 50th birthday, she decided to have a Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed party. Katie wore an Audrey-inspired little black dress and joined her 200 guests at Tiffany’s, a rare occurence for the jewelry store. I haven’t found any pictures of the event yet, but you can read more here.

The episode of “CSI: New York” with the larcenous trio of Holly Golightlys is airing again tonight! Catch it on your local CBS affiliate. (I was going to post a clip from that episode here as a teaser, but it’s been taken down.)

Christie’s, the Queen, anorexia, and more dolls (and more)

No Comments 24 November 2006

To make up for not updating too much lately, I scoured the Internet yesterday (before cooking the best dinner ever eaten) and found lots of great stuff to share.

But the first item comes from the wonderful Franklin, who let us know that Christie’s now has the December catalogue up, and it’s auctioning 20 Audrey items! I’d last heard there would be the Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress and two Charade dresses, but nowhere near around 20 different items. There’s actually 21, if you count two photo collections going up that feature portraits of Audrey. Anyway, Christie’s is good enough to have good-sized pictures of each item next to a description (and heart-stopping estimate of the sale in British pounds), so you can see just the Audrey items here. And if you’re too lazy to look, here’s some pictures:

Harper’s Bazaar scans

No Comments 05 November 2006

It turns out the drugstore up the street does carry Harper’s, along with other chi-chi magazines you wouldn’t expect next to trashy romance novels. I decided to flip through the November Natalie issue real quick just to see what all was in it, and I found an extra little article that no one seems to have mentioned. So I suffered and bought the magazine just to razor out the pages and scan it for everybody. Actually, it wasn’t all that bad at $3.99 — I think Mad Magazine nearly costs that now, and it’s about a quarter the size of Harper’s. And now you all know that I read Mad on a regular basis. Right.

"Still our Fair Lady," plus "Gardens of the World"

No Comments 02 November 2006

There’s a short article talking about Audrey’s newfound popularity, especially with the recent Gap ads and the new Treasures book. It’s very short (I’ve told you pretty much all that’s in it already), but you can see the full article here.

Next up, thanks to the Audrey Hepburn Circle, I’ve found that the Gardens of the World miniseries now has their own website up! It’s a very Audrey-centric site, and goes more into detail on what’s in the new special edition DVD set, but the best part is Audrey’s full written introduction to the original series and an interview with her about the series. All in all it’s a nice site and definitely worth sharing, so click here to visit for yourself.
