Audrey Hepburn double feature coming soon…

No Comments 02 October 2007

If you are in the Madison, Wisconsin area or will be in December, then you might want to drop in the Westgate Art Cinemas. They’ll be playing an Audrey Hepburn double feature there for a week, with Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday, two of Audrey’s most beloved films. No specific dates are up yet, but you can check back near the end of November and even order tickets online. You can also read more about Westgate’s Great Performances series here if you’d like.

how to make Audrey Hepburn cry

No Comments 26 September 2007

There’s a new Audrey Hepburn clip on You Tube, and in it Audrey tells the fantastic story of how she was made to cry at the end of Roman Holiday. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this story, I won’t ruin it for you, instead letting Audrey herself tell it to you:

This is part of a “best of” montage episode from Terry Wogan’s talk show, and Audrey is only featured for the first three minutes. But what a great three minutes!

A Life in Pictures review; plus, a fan needs your help

No Comments 22 September 2007

I’ve been working hard all morning updating the site, and there is now a full review of Anova Books’ upcoming Audrey Hepburn: A Life in Pictures. It’s a bit more fleshed out than the original blog-only review I did last month, and will be on the website permanently here. As with any Audrey product that’s listed on the site, if you own it or have seen it/read it and would like to leave your own review, please do so! Fellow fans would love to hear your point of view.

more Audrey Hepburn dolls!

No Comments 21 September 2007

As you may know by now, I’m a pretty big fan of Audrey Hepburn paper dolls — the virtual kind, since I haven’t yet found any real paper ones. (Previous dolls are here and here.) Well today I received an email from Elizabeth of Cartoon Emporium, and they’ve just put up a new Audrey Hepburn doll! I love this doll because they did a really great job on Audrey’s face, and unlike some other dolls, this actually features clothes from Audrey’s movies. You can play with Audrey here, if you’d like. And thank you to Elizabeth for sharing this and indulging my weaknesses. 🙂

New Audrey Hepburn goodies coming soon!

No Comments 12 September 2007

You can tell that the holiday season is coming ’round again, because new Audrey products are coming out all at once now. We’ve already discussed the new, 50th anniversary DVD of Funny Face coming October 2nd, but also to be released that day is a new Audrey Hepburn boxed set (left). This new set features five great films: Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Roman Holiday, Sabrina, and Paris When it Sizzles. Wow!

This is in addition to the already much hyped Audrey Hepburn: A Life in Pictures book that I reviewed earlier, and a re-release of the wonderful Audrey Hepburn’s Enchanted Tales, an audio CD where Audrey reads classic fairy tales. The book and CD both come out November 1st in the US. You can either start saving your pennies now, or start putting together that wishlist and conveniently leaving it out in front of all your friends and family. 😉

The Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund is rewarded; what are you doing this weekend?

No Comments 30 June 2007

Designs of Hope, a specialized set of fundraisers that take place across America to benefit UNICEF, has come in ahead of schedule in their goal to raise $5 million for orphans with AIDS in five years. This year they held a series of galas which featured the finest in food and fashion, finishing on a high note in Houston, Texas, with a fashion tribute to Audrey Hepburn. Honored at the June 8 event was actress Jane Seymour, for her ongoing humanitarian efforts, and the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund, for their work with women and children affected by AIDS. There was an Audrey-inspired fashion show, as well. You can read more about the Designs of Hope events here, since this was sadly their last year.

See Roman Holiday and save an historic theatre

No Comments 16 April 2007

Every year the Los Angeles Conservancy has a “Last Remaining Seat” event, where beautiful, historic theatres in Los Angeles are re-opened to screen classic movies and raise money to keep these theatres in good order. This year Roman Holiday will be screened at the fantastic Los Angeles Theatre in downtown L.A. on May 30th. In the age of ugly, utilitarian box theatres it’s utterly amazing to see such an elaborate building set up to just sit and watch a movie. The ornate detail in every little thing shows just how big a deal it was to go out to the movies, and it’s sad that we’ve lost that charm along the way. If you can make it to the screening, please do! Let us know what it’s like to see a beautiful film in a beautiful setting. Click here for ticket information.

how Cameron Crowe fell in love with Audrey Hepburn

No Comments 06 March 2007

On iFilm there’s an interview with director Cameron Crowe about Elizabethtown, and he’s asked about his obsession with Audrey Hepburn. If you’re not familiar with his films, in Vanilla Sky there is a Sabrina reference, in Jerry Maguire there’s the line “That’s more than a dress; that’s an Audrey Hepburn movie,” and in Elizabethtown there’s footage of Roman Holiday (besides “Moon River” playing throughout the film and the obvious Kirsten Dunst as a modern Holly Golightly bit throughout as well). I won’t ruin it for you, so just click the link above to go to the video. It’s short at just under 3 minutes, so the interviewer doesn’t have a chance to get too annoying. 🙂

As a special bonus, here is an animation of cute little Parisian kitties prancing about to the tune of the instrumental “Bonjour Paris” from the Funny Face soundtrack. Such a great little song! Thank you to the shy one who sent this video in.

Audrey Hepburn at the Oscars

No Comments 27 February 2007

If you didn’t end up watching the Oscars last night, Audrey Hepburn herself was featured! During a segment on writers in cinema, a clip from Paris When It Sizzles was shown. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the film, Audrey plays a typist named Gabrielle Simpson who is hired to type a non-existent script for slacker screenwriter Richard Benson, played by William Holden. There was also an Audrey-inspired commercial that aired during the ceremonies.
