Audrey A Roma

No Comments 19 October 2011

Exciting news! There will be a new exhibit on Audrey Hepburn in Rome, Italy, running from October 26th through December 4th. While there will be photos and personal items of Audrey’s on display, this exhibit is different from Timeless Audrey, the exhibit that has been displayed in Germany and Japan and select other locations. Audrey A Roma is a special exhibit showcasing the years Audrey lived as an Italian housewife whilst married to her second husband, Andrea Dotti.

Audrey Hepburn: In Her Own Words

No Comments 14 July 2010

Many years ago, I visited the offices of The Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund and saw a beautiful video about Audrey’s work with UNICEF. It was introduced by Gregory Peck and I remember he read one of Audrey’s favourite poems by Rabindranath Tagore. It’s been a long time and I haven’t ever been able to find a copy of the video, but luckily a film company found me.

Timeless Audrey is alive!

No Comments 24 March 2009

Great news for all of the Audrey fans around the world who have been asking about the Timeless Audrey exhibit, the traveling display of Audrey Hepburn memorabilia. I got an email this morning from a fellow by the name of Daniel who tells me that the exhibit is currently in Berlin (Germany), and will stay there until May 10th. This is very exciting! After spending more than a year in Japan, where Audrey is still a very huge icon, the flats and displays needed to be refurbished after a lot of moving and general wear and tear, and no one at the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund was sure when the exhibit would be ready to travel again. Now we know. 🙂

Anyway, all proceeds from visitors to Timeless Audrey will directly benefit UNICEF’s All Children In School, a project we know was very close to Audrey’s heart. I’m putting up a copy of the flyer (in English, so I don’t need to translate for you) below, and Daniel has also asked that I put up a link to a website put up expressly for Timeless Audrey’s time in Germany, which I’m more than happy to do. The site can be found here. It’s all in German, though, so brush up on your Deutsche before heading in. 🙂

That’s the only information I have about the exhibit at this time, but I’ll be sure to keep an eye out and see if I can’t find out if it will be making other European stops. It’d be silly not to, right? And maybe someday it’ll come back to the States and do a more extensive tour for us Americans that can’t afford a trip right now. *sigh* Soon. The bad never lasts forever, even though it may feel like it, right?

Okay, that’s all for now. If you haven’t been around to visit lately, then you probably don’t know that the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund website got quite a major overhaul and now matches the Audrey Bag site. Go look!

Audrey Hepburn: Legacy of Caring

No Comments 07 November 2008

The Children’s Fund website links to this fairly new video about Audrey’s former work with UNICEF, and it ties in nicely with what the fund and UNICEF are doing to help the children of the world. As Tuesday reminded all the world, not just the United States, what one country does affects us all, and the younger generations have as big a say in what happens to our world as any other generation. For too many years humanity has turned too far inward and cared only about themselves as individuals, and because of that far too many people are suffering. Now that we’re beginning to wake up and look around, we need to not only dust ourselves off but pick up those who were tossed to the wayside and forgotten during our darker moments.

the ultimate Mother’s Day gifts

No Comments 16 April 2008

I just got a little catalogue in the mail from UNICEF, and it’s encouraging their members to buy one of their Inspired Gifts for your mum this Mother’s Day (May 11th). I think it’s actually a very sweet idea, seeing that the holiday is just a made up Hallmark holiday anyway, and could you give the woman who gave you life* anything better than the chance to touch other childrens lives?

Gifts that give back

No Comments 11 December 2007

If you haven’t already started, I know you’re already at least looking for gifts to start buying for your friends and family for the upcoming holidays. While there are literally billions of things you could get someone that would be a great gift, how about a little something that keeps on giving? More and more, companies are making products that are not only pretty and useful, but they’re made by people in need with the proceeds going to help them, or a product is sold through a charity with the purchase price going towards a certain goal the charity has in mind. Newsday.com has a great article up talking about some of these double-giving presents you might want to consider.

And we’re back

No Comments 04 December 2007

Hello all, and many thanks for your enduring patience with me. To make a long life story short, I decided at the last minute to drive 500 miles south and spend the holiday with my family, since I hadn’t had a holiday with them in 3 years for one reason or another. My mum’s accident made me realize that our time with each other is limited, and I need to make the most of it. My baby nephew also turned one year old and his favourite aunt had to be onhand for that momentous occasion, of course. 🙂 I also managed to write a novel for NaNoWriMo, but that’s a different story, get it?

Long story short, I’m back and we have a lot of catching up to do! Here’s a short list of things that have been going on in the world of Audrey Hepburn lately:

Ralph Lauren and Audrey Hepburn

No Comments 20 October 2007

During her later years in life, Audrey Hepburn gave Givenchy a break and started to dress more casually. For her Gardens of the World series, and for her numerous UNICEF trips, she favoured Ralph Lauren’s stylish yet casual Polo shirts and khaki pants with Keds flats to get her through the day. She became quite chummy with Ralph as well, and even presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award (through the Council for American Fashion Designers, left) in 1992.

Audrey Hepburn and celebrity diplomacy

No Comments 10 October 2007

A new book on celebrities and international affairs has just been released, called Celebrity Diplomacy. In it, author Andrew Cooper discusses how the growing trend of celebrity diplomats has changed and molded the very art of diplomacy itself, and also acts as a guide for future celebrities looking to go into a more humanitarian field during or after their careers. While Angelina Jolie and Bono may get a lot of attention now for their meetings with Congress and the UN for their causes, only two women can be traced back to the firm roots of celebrity diplomats: Audrey Hepburn and Princess Diana. At least that’s how it is according to Cooper. The book looks like it’s a very fascinating read, especially considering the fact that the growing number of celebrity endorsements for humanitarian aid and calls to awareness are really, literally changing the art of diplomacy for anyone involved, well-known or not. You can read more about the book here, if you’re interested.
